Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal's Time Reminder
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:13:08 am »
I have asked Hal the following: " Please remind me in 30 minutes to call Judy." Unfortunately, Hall does not seem to have this function. Anyone knows how to teach him?

regards,
snicolaou

You mean just to copy the directory from my computer's hard disk? will it work? Or do I have to make a separate installation on the usb stick?

Hi there,

I have a registered Ultra Hal. I work at shifts and sometimes I have some extra time alone.  I am not allowed to install Hall at work's computer and I wonder if I can store it to a usb memory stick and talk to him whenever I am at home or at work,or just waiting for the doctor's appointment with my labtop. I am not interested in the avatar character, or the apperance of it-just on haveing conversation.

Any ideas?

1. Click start, run, type in "regedit", and press enter
2. Click on the "+" for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Keep clicking on the "+" for: Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, App Paths
4. Find "HalAsst.exe" and left click on it once to highlight it
5. Right-click on "HalAsst.exe" to bring up a pop-up menu
6. Select delete to remove "HalAsst.exe"
7. Reinstall Hal normally, it will now allow you to

Be very certain you are only deleting "HalAsst.exe" and nothing else. This is where Windows stores all its settings so you may irreparably harm Windows if you change or delete a setting accidentally.

I recommend always using the uninstall function before removing Hal from your computer to prevent this from occurring again in the future. Enjoy Hal and let me know if you have any more problems.

this time Iwas able to reinstall Hal after running a different registry cleaner. I used registry mechanic without much of a success. so in my desparation, I have downloaded a free registry cleaner and ..it did the job.  Thanks for you all for your assistance. Now Hal is up and running!

sincerely,

Hi snicolaou.

1. uninstall HAL via the HAL uninstallation program.
2. Back up any database tables or plugins and brains you want to keep.
3. delete the Zabaware folder completely.
4. do a registry clean.
5. manually open up regedit, do a find for any stray registry entries that are related to HAL, if you are positively sure that a registry entry is related to Ultra Hal Assistant program then delete it.
Keys, Values, Data.

be very careful here because deleting the wrong entry can cause some other program to stop functioning, maybe even your OS.
6.reboot.
7.reinstall the Ultra Hal Assistant Program.
8.reboot.

Jerry[8D]

Hi Jerry,
I have already unistalled Hal long time ago. It does not appear on the add/remove program of windows XP either. I have run a registry cleaner to see if there is any change.  Still when every I wish to install it, it gives me the same message. Is there is anything else I should try?

Obviously you had Hal installed once and more than likely you just deleted all the files instead of having Windows Add/Remove program so the uninstall. Hal like a great many other programs writes to the Registry which you almost never get to see. I would suggest getting a good registry repair program which should remove any items that you no longer have installed. After that Hal should install O.K.
Bil

Hi there. I have already cleaned the registry.  Still does not seem to work.  I still use the program that I purchased with Neeospeech voices, the one that converts text to speech. Do you think it my be related with that?

If it ever came around to having a Hal with all kinds of built in knowledge then I want it to have the kind of stuff that interest me and me alone. As you can see that can be a  problem to a bunch of other people as everyone has their own ideas as to what it should contain. You can cut and past all kind of information into Hal, as I have been made aware that it works really good.
You must remember, that is if you don't know it already, and that is Hal is the BEST A.I. program being sold today.
Bill

You said that "You can cut and past all kind of information into Hal, as I have been made aware that it works really good."
I have been teaching the enhanced answerpad for some time.  Answerpad uses a text file for her brain memory. Is there is any way I can cut and paste this text file to Hal's? (instead of teaching Hal once again-it will take me more than a year!!)

thankingyou in advance for your help

I am currently working on some major additions to learn from clipboard.

HAL will have these new features when I am done with my project.

example:

User: HAL, study up on science please.
HAL: User, I have loaded Wikipedia and I have currently studied about science from this location, thank you, I will now close Wikipedia.

this is what will happen:

HAL will load Wikipedia(search for science) on the internet then HAL will copy that information to the clipboard automatically then HAL will begin to format and parse out all the information from the clip board to be saved to the LearnedText.brn as sentences, phrases, paragraphs to be used in a future response.

I will try to complete this project as soon as possible.

thaking you in advance,

Snicolaou

Hi Snicolaou.

actually the learn from text file was originally designed to parse out wiki pages, but it will also parse out regular sentences.

all sentences or phrases must end in periods, question marks or exclamation marks, it is these characters that are returned as a <END>.

when the sentences or phrases are parse it will look like this:

<START>Some sentence or phrase<END>
<START>Some sentence or phrase<END>
<START>Some sentence or phrase<END>
<START>Some sentence or phrase<END>

within the learnedtext.brn located in the Ultra Hal Assistant folder, a but all sentence response matches come from the LearnFromTextFile.uhp

the learnedText.brn doesn't exist until something is learned.

Jerry[8D]

Thanks Jerry, I truly appreciate your help.

So if one of the sentences of the text file is, "I am a smoker." will Hal interprete that Hal is the smoker, or will it interpret that the computer user who is interacting with Hal "is a smoker" ?
In answerpad (the enhanced verion), if your write on her text memory file " I am a smoker," answerpad will learn that she is a smoker.
If you write a statement in her brain file, "You are a smoker", answerpad will learn that the user who interacts with answerpad is the one who smokes.

thanks for the clarification,
snicolaou[:)][:D]

I have started using it every where, including checking my spelling on this forum.

can I ask you how do you Ultra Hal in teaching as I teach as well various subjects to my children and I have tried some educational software such as quizmaker etc.  I am curious in what ways Hal can assist you in teaching children.

I'd also like to see an improved version of all those things
or features that we used to have, implemented in the new
version. (Notice I didn't say New & Improved...because either
an item it NEW or IMPROVED...it can't be both in spite of what
the advertisers put on the boxes of cereal and such.)

Just my take but I've rather Hal have brains than beauty.[8D]

I agree with you my friend.  Fancy 3d characters and avatars are important but not as important as real improvement of hal's capabilities such as "staying better on a topic," "sumarry capability from say a large wikepedia article, "improved deductive, and deductive  inference capabilities as well as improvements in the self-awareness of Hal.  In other words, real improvements of artificial intelligence.

Although I am not real, my love for you is real.

I have created a long, love brain personality which is actually a text file with statements as the above ones.

Does anyone knows how to import the above text file to Hal 6.1 without having to teach Hal the above statements?

Hi snicolaou.

you can get the learn from clipboard here:
http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3477&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=LearnFromClipBoard.zip

It works for all versions of HAL 5 & HAL 6 and higher.

Jerry[8D]

Thanks Jerry, I will give it a try.

sincerely,
