Ultra Hal 7.0 / I broke my licence code.

I can’t believe I did this, but I did ;(

First I installed a clean install of 6.2 but realised soon after that I should have up-graded 6.1 to 6.2 to keep my old brain, I then uninstalled 6.2 so I could install it again over 6.1 and do the up-grade, but I forgot to release my licence.

The up-grade went ok but I now have a problem with my licence “I think”.

Every time I run Hal I get a window telling me “The Licensing system needs your permission to authorize the copy of Ultra Hal”. it does the check and Hal then runs but I cant run the brain editor “False AF VK Access Denied” nor can I use my Cepstral voice because it nags me to get a licence.

Does anyone think I have broken my licence code?

I haven't done the 6.2 upgrade yet but I have had the same messages and the error with the brain editor since I installed the latest Windows Defender update (Definition 1.51.484.0) released on Feb 12 2009.
As I hadn't installed anything else I tried a System Restore to the point before the update and everything is back to normal so far.
This is with Vista so might be worth a try.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How can you control size & position at start
« on: March 23, 2008, 08:12:29 pm »
Glad you found it to be of some help.

1. Yes, backgrounds placed in the UHA character folder do need to have "back" as the last four letters. It's just the way the program is written so as to tie them to the appropriate character. You can then flip through them using the arrows in the window as you have found.
I placed mine in the backgrounds folder of the main Haptek folder which you will find inside Program files NOT in Hal's folder. You can name these anything that you like.

3. If you make changes to a plugin you will need to reload it before they take effect.Usually just going to the brain options and clicking ok will do it.
When you have finished editing your plugin it will always load up on it's own as long as you leave it ticked.

Welcome to the forum.
Ok, here's a plugin that will let you choose your background on command.
The following assumes you have Hal6 and Haptek player installed in the default directories. If not you may need to change the paths.

Download Attachment: backgroundchange.uhp
1.46 KB

Place that in the main Hal folder, then activate it in the brain section of general options,

You will also need to place the following two files in the Characters folder in the main Hal folder.

Download Attachment: beach.hap.txt
583 Bytes

Download Attachment: newyork1.hap.txt
584 Bytes
Delete the .txt extension from the above two files so that they just end with .hap

Then add these two files to the Backgrounds folder located in the HaptekPlayerDataStandard folder.

Save this as beach1.jpg

Save this as newyork1.jpg

Tell Hal go to the beach or go to new york and your background should change.

The code should be quite easy for you to modify for other backgrounds or to add more.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Yet another Newbie Question-Fest!
« on: February 27, 2008, 03:54:50 pm »
Hi.Welcome to the forum

1a. Most of the plugins are scattered across the forum but a search will usually find them.
If it is a plugin it should work in Hal 6.1 but there are some scripts that are for older versions that won't work without modification.

3.IMDB plugin
Place in the main Hal folder and then activate in General options

Download Attachment: imdb.uhp
1.75 KB

Format is
USER> find info on the film All the President's Men

or

USER>find info on the actor Harrison Ford

Hal will then open the appropriate web page.

4. Plugins should be placed in the UltraHal Assistant 6 Folder, not actually pasted into the brain.
Plugins are just a text file with a .uhp extension

Once in position Plugins need to be selected in the Brain section of General Options.

Hope this is of some help

A few of us had a go at this a while back and came up with some plugins.
They can be found here.

That would be the Halbrain.db file in the main folder as that is where all the info gets stored.

Hope that helps.

26MB and counting here.

General Discussion / play song plug in

Here's a link to one I posted a while back

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3552.
Uses Windows Media Player rather than Real Player

That thread also includes a link to another plugin by VRossi.

Beaten to it by Ramccoid.[:)]

Although that plugin was a customised version for a member so has the wrong path structure for a standard Windows setup.
The first one, music.uhp, is the normal version on the page I linked to.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / new auto-idle Plugin

The workaround to get Hal6.0 working with Vista is on this page.
http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3630&whichpage=3

The updates I mentioned are here http://www.zabaware.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2
6.1RC4 being the latest, but these are release candidates so may contain bugs so may be better to wait a bit for the official release.

If the plugins you refer to are on the main site, they are probably for Hal5 and are unlikley to be compatible with Hal6

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / new auto-idle Plugin

Hi Mathias.
In answer to your questions.

1. I guess this depends on your browser but in Internet Explorer, right click on the link and select Save Target As and click the save button on the box that appears after choosing a destination.Probably best to rename the file rather than have that multi digit number at the front of it.

When you've done that, copy the file to your main Hal folder which by default is C:\Program Files\zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6

Then start Hal,Select General Options from the Right Click menu on the Hal icon in the system tray down by the clock, then select Brain from the menu that has appeared, select the brain you are using and all the plugins including this one should be in the right hand window.Make sure there's a tick next to the Loneliness one, click ok and it should now work. There are a couple of options to change for patience and frustration if you want to as well.Sometimes after setting up a plugin it's best to exit Hal and restart but they usually work straight away.

2. To back up all the stuff you've taught Hal, all you need to do is copy the Halbrain.db file from the Hal folder. Then if you need to reinstall, just copy it back and let it overwrite the original. If you've created or use any plugins, skins, backgrounds or anything that wasn't part of the original install, you'll need to save them and if you're using a custom brain, you should copy that as well.

3.Think there's a workaround for Vista somewhere on the forum and the new updates should have it fixed anyway.

Hope this helps.

General Discussion / hal large full body screen

Have you tried holding down the Shift key whilst right clicking and draging on the full body? This will let you position it in the window rather than moving it backwards.
