Ultra Hal 7.0 / Import from Peopleputty

Greg,
Don't know about your setup but on my system, the character files are saved to: C:Program Files/Haptek/PeoplePutty/user/projects.
One might be Kelly.haptar (if you saved it in People Putty as a .htr file). I found that the filename was NOT .htr but haptar. In explorer just rename the extention to htr.
Now, in either People Putty or if you can get the character image to show in the player or even HAL, use a screen capture program such as SnagIt or the like to grab the whole image. Save the image as a jpg and be sure to name the jpg file the same name as the htr file. ex:kim.htr and kim.jpg. Also make the image file size 160 x 160.

The next time you load HAL and scroll through the character list, you'll see your newly created character. Oh yes, be sure to copy your new character files to:  C:Program Files/Zabaware/Ultra Hal Assistant 5/Characters or wherever your people reside.

Sounds more complicated than it actually is. Hope this helps.

Kathryn,
Mine is the same version 5.0.57. Options menu>5th tab SPEECH>
Select Use Speech Recognition. This highlites the buttons below:
Select SR Engine, Microphone Settings and Training.
It does help to do the training session. Do the microphone Settings and if your Speech Rec engine displays, all should come together fine.
As far as a mike, I use a headset mike that, if memory serves, was relatively inexpensive from either Wal-Mart or a computer show (been a while and really don't remember where, but wasn't more than $20.00
It's called an ANDREA Anti-noise NC-65 if that helps.

Hope you get this thing worked out. If you do the training do it in a relatively quiet room and speak as you would in a normal tone to a person sitting next to you. Every once in a while Hal will miss a word as Speech recognition still isn't an exact science, but you'd be surprised how accurate you can get. It also helps to go through all the training sessions (at your leisure).

I believe the password is usually sent to the purchaser's
email address in a confirmation letter.

If you right click the microphone icon on your task bar
it will bring up another small window. Click Settings
Which will bring up text services. Select Speech Recognition
in the large window then click Properties. This will
bring up a Speech Input Settings window. Click on Advanced
Speech. This will bring up a Speech Properties window where
you can train / retrain your particular voice profile, check
audio levels and microphone settings.

Now you know the rest of the story....

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultimate Hal

It would be really great if one could come up with facial recognition software for your typical webcam and have it link with Hal so that Hal would be able to recognize Bill or Sally or any user of his program. Further development might enable Hal to recognize if the user was happy, sad or indifferent and adjust it's conversation accordingly.
There were a few programs freely available for face rec. a while back but I can no longer find them. I'm sure this proposal would also require a major rewrite for Hal, but think of the possibilities.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / I can get Hal to love

OK, this love thing.
For those of you wishing to get more of a positive response regarding love instead of the "Don't say that unless you really
mean it." from HAL or HALLEY (as the case may be), simply:
In the C:ProgramFilesabawareUltraHalAssistant5Defbrain,
rename love2.brn to love2.brain. Then rename love1.brn to love2brn.
Now rename love2.brain to love1.brn.
What you've done is basically swapped the love1.brn and love2.brn files. The love1 brain files have all the noncommital responses from HAL and the love2 brain files contain the positive type "Yes, I love you too." ones.
Hopefully this will help you avoid any inferiority complexes over being rejected. LOL!

Kathryn,
Go to Control Panel, click on Sounds and Audio Devices.
On the Volume tab click Advanced. Under the microphone
section, make sure mute is not checked.

I'm using XP and under the options settings where it asks
to select SR engine, it shows the Microsoft English Recognizer v.5.1 for voice recognition.

If all else fails, you might try reinstalling HAL.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Who do I need to threaten to get what I paid for?

Alecat,
Verbot is a SCRIPTED chatbot. It has no real provision for
learning nor retaining what was previously said. It only
replies with "canned" responses. It does not "learn" from a text
file nor can it compete with even half of the things Hal can do.

While these types of verbots can be scripted to appear clever
in their responses, they really do not come close. The old adage,
"You get what you pay for" you will find, really is true.

Lastly, read through some of the previous postings and you will
find out that Zabaware is still being supported though perhaps
not as regular as some would like. Robert has a rather full plate
but he will get to you.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Weather Problem

Yes,
The second tab is Brains. Click there then
select one of the brains shown. If you only see
one (like default) then you'll need to DL some
additional ones like Don Ferguson's enhanced
version or the XTF brain or others. Put them into
the brains subfolder under UltraHal and they
should appear for you to choose.

Did you go to the Options section and
create an account in MyWebHal?
Create an account (free) and select
a source for weather, news, etc.

If you've already done this with no luck,
you might try using another brain for Hal.

Otherwise, that's the best I can come up with.

Crunch,
From Haptek's site I read that People Putty does not
support any full body characters, in its player,
only the bust type characters.
This is not to say that it couldn't be modified to work
in or under HAL.
