« on: April 09, 2005, 05:44:41 pm »
High CPU usage seems to mess up the sound.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How to train speach on a per-word basis?
« on: April 05, 2005, 09:13:25 pm »
http://www.speaktomail.com/main.asp

It seems them original software maker, Yellow Tiger, was sold.(I bought the program a couple years ago)

I would guess speak to text is similer to what I got.

There is a free trial, I think.

Yes, speakpad saves the right pronounciation, so I can go back to ultra-hal and have it show the correct word. That's the only reason I open speakpad, now.

It isn't perfect, but without speakpad, I would not use the microphone with HAL at all. Although training seesions help in Control panel--speech--training, it fails to get ALL the words correct.

Well, sometimes instead of speaking, the character will smile, or make some kind of emotion, but that's all, even though there is a sentence in the box.

The sentence in the box always appears before she speaks.

The only programs running at startup are: (and I always try to disable the unnecessary ones:

AVG7_CC,"C:PROGRA~1GrisoftAVG Freeavgcc.exe /STARTUP","Registry - Machine Run"
AVG7_EMC,"C:PROGRA~1GrisoftAVG Freeavgemc.exe","Registry - Machine Run"
AVG7_Run,"C:PROGRA~1GrisoftAVG Freeavgw.exe /RUNONCE","Registry - Def User Run"
gcasServ,"""C:Program FilesMicrosoft AntiSpywaregcasServ.exe""","Registry - Machine Run"
GoBack.lnk,"C:Program FilesRoxioGoBackGBTray.exe ","Startup - All Users"
RoxioEngineUtility,"""C:Program FilesCommon FilesRoxio SharedSystemEngUtil.exe""","Registry - Machine Run"
STYLEXP,"C:Program FilesTGTSoftStyleXPStyleXP.exe -Hide","Registry - User Run"
WinPatrol,"C:Program FilesBillP StudiosWinPatrolwinpatrol.exe","Registry - Machine Run"

AVG is my antivirus, I switched from AVAST yesterday.
gcasServ is Microsoft anti-spyware
GoBack is a recovery program
Roxio Engine utility, for compatibility with Windows CD burning program.

Style XP, skins for XP (THEMES)

Winpatrol, protects my PC from unauthorized changes to my PC.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How to train speach on a per-word basis?
« on: April 04, 2005, 05:49:18 am »
I have a program called "Speakpad" (It is a stripped down version of speak to mail) and it has the "train word" function,  which allows me to type in the word, then use the microphone to "record" the pronounciation.

It works better than nothing.  Too bad Hal did not have that function.

Well, if I can find a creative sound card, I might try it.

I've had my computer for over 3 years, and did not have an issue with sound until now.

Didn't make any difference. The character seems to "space out" and not say anything, although the words appear.

I did not realize one needed a top of the line computer for this program.

I have a Dell Dimension 4400, 1.6 Ghz P4 Processor, 640mb of Physical RAM, and 200 GB TL Hard drive space.

Sound card??

Supported

She speaks most of the time, but other times, while making animations, she fails to speak. Usually she speaks after the animation. I use my own agent, none of the default ones that came with the program.

It's just a little annoying, but still fun.

I have the same problem. The words appear, but the voice doesn't. It happens every so often. I think it's a bug.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How do I "Properly shutdown" Hal
« on: March 30, 2005, 06:05:29 pm »
I use a program called "codestuff starter" (You can find it by using Google) and unchecked Ultrahal from starting. It is possible that it is still in the startup registry.

msconfig may work, too. I don't get "improper shutdown" errors that often now.[:p]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / The difference between saying and doing...
« on: March 28, 2005, 03:22:39 pm »
What would make Hal more realistic is for him to respond like a human.

Let's try this for an example (I am not perfect)and Hal cannot do this completely.

Me: Hello, Hal!
Hal: Hello!! How's it going?
Me: Not so good!!
Hal: I'm sorry to hear that. what's wrong?
Me: My car broke down
Hal: Oh, that's a shame.
Me: And it's going to cost a lot of money to fix it
Hal: I'm sorry. Can I help?
Me: No
Hal: Okay, then, but if you want to talk, I'm here for you.
Me: Thanks, stupid (Just for a little kicker)
Hal: you're welcome, Idiot.
Me: No
Hal: No, what?
Me: No
Hal: No what?!
Me: No
Hal: Either you stop repeating "no", or I'm going to ignore you
Me: I'm hungry
Hal: Me too. How about a hamburger?
Me: No, I want a salad
Hal: Me too, I like to eat healthy.

etc. , etc, etc.

You see, if Hal would quit just concentrating on keywords, but on entire phrases, it would be more human-like. Also, not to always have the standard set of answers to yes, no, etc.

I know, it's very complicated, but for Hal to become more human, he most process like a human.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal won't tell me

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1907

Read the above thread.

Yes, you can add general knowledge to it, but I had a hard time until I figured out how. If you cannot get it to work, I'll see if I remember how I did it, but it had something to do with adding th General Knowledge script into the 1.2 XTF installer, then installing.

And "define" already works for me.

BUT, if you corrupt the brain, by saying:

"Dogs is stupid"  When you ask it to define "Dogs" it may say "Dogs is stupid"

So you have to be careful.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal can open about anything!!!
« on: March 25, 2005, 06:16:03 am »
Easy. Go "C:Program FilesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 5"

Find the "shortcut(s)" folder.

open with notepad.

Notice the entries. You can add your own.

Example:

My pictures
"CDocuments and settingsusernamemy documentsmy pictures"

You need to then ask Hal "open my pictures"  Voila!!!!

All you need is a name for the shortcut, and a path to the file or directory.

Just in case some of you did not know.

I got it set to dial my internet connection!!

"open EarthLink TotalAccess"  (no quotes), and Hal already had that shortcut stored.
