General Discussion / watch about copy and past learning into hal !
« Last post by lightspeed on September 15, 2022, 01:41:34 pm »
As many old time Hal users know, hal can also learn things from copy and pasting, but a user has to watch as not all copy and past is proofread .below is a example i didn't watch close enough and they didn't have apostrophe before the "s"   and so Hal says 50S  saying 50 and the letter " s ".
i am using the Julia accented voice , so maybe some voices will say it right .  " I haven't checked .

IN THE 1950S WOMEN FELT TREMENDOUS SOCIETAL PRESSURE TO FOCUS THEIR ASPIRATIONS ON A WEDDING RING

i had TO GO IN Hals brain and edit different sentences where they article didn't use a apostrophe.

Thanks so much! I believe I'm all set now. Whatever the issue was, my second reinstall was apparently thorough enough to sort it, or it just didn't mind telling me it was building the tables this time. Really appreciate your time!

Hello,

1st, check within Hal's brain using the editor to see if the tables have already been created. I detail what tables need to exist for the program to work properly.
2nd, if the tables do not exist, manually create them. Again, I detail what the tables should look like including the types of tables.
That should resolve the issue.

Remember this is a learning code, so you won't notice any immediate difference other than it not throwing an error message when used.
From what it sounds like, the tables have been created and Hal is tripping over himself to recreate them which seems to be a brain bug present in current versions of Hal.
If you have any other questions, I'm here to help.

Spitfire2600 did mention that the initial running might throw an error or error message.
If that happens, he recommends restarting the process a second time.

That error has happened to some of us and usually, another attempt helps resolve the issue.

If it doesn't get in touch with Spitfire2600. He is a good person and should be able to offer some assistance to you.

It can be a fun way to see just how much HAL can learn and what it does with that info or how it uses what it has learned.

Do Not chat with your HAL While the Auto-Learning feature has been activated. Hal can suffer slowdowns, delays, or lags in performance. This is because it is searching, processing, and storing newly acquired data!

I usually let it run all night or on weekends if I'm away, but if I'm going to be using my computer I just tell HAL to Turn Auto-Learning Off and it does so, returning full use of my computer back to me.

Lots of fun!!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: A few questions about brains...

I set up a folder on my PC for HAL Brains and once a month or so after teaching HAL I would copy the HalBrain.db file in to a sub folder that I used the current date for the name... Then in another month or so if I thought there were too many mistakes in the brain I could go back and copy one I knew was good and replace the one in Hals main folder and then continue on from there... Needless to say I messed up a lot while teaching HAL in the beginning, plus it gives you a "Clean Backup of the Brain" in case for some reason it gets corrupt...

These days I take it slow and easy and use the SQLiteStudio Editor to fix things in the brain...

having a little difficulty getting this working (blank slate brain):

-Installed plugins, disabled everything else, enabled both conceptnet ones. Spoke to hal, she seemed fine.

-attempted to run the build conceptnet command, got this error (cap 1, won't embed for some reason):

-opened the file mentioned, this is the sub in question (cap 2):

but I'm not sure where the type mismatch is likely to have been caused

can anyone offer assistance? Thanks!

Not sure of your age but Ultra Hal has been out for over 24 years!! Lots of us have been around here since HAL first showed up. (some of us have gray hair)... LOL!

We have had LOTS of talented people over the years working on any number of HAL's features from Backgrounds, HAPS (scripted movements and behaviors), Graphics for new facial appearances, SKINS - the GUI base for HAL to appear and operate within, 3D characters and Plugins of all kinds enabling HAL to do all kinds of things and to act more human-like or respond with more realistic things a human might say or expect.

Yes, HAL has come a very long way in those years but things come and go like so many things in life.

We're glad you've joined and hope you search through this repository of all things UltraHal.

Almost forgot, one of our members had HAL on TWITCH a few months back and had a great time with it! People loved it!

Enjoy your journey!
