Title: how do I update still waiting for cd & mic
Post by: csilar on February 05, 2004, 03:34:42 pm
I purchased Ultr Hal Assistant 5.0 off the web, the cd and mic are a few days late so I downloaded the program last night. I keep getting a pop up message that a new version of Hal is available on line. Can't seem to find it. also it only installed  the default brain with no options , (don't learn or use vulgar, learning preferences etc.)any suggestions. thanks.

If you have 5.0 then you have the latest version. Even the commercial version has very few options. Whether or not you want it to be vulgar is up to you. Be patient and when you get ready to train Hal to understand you spoken voice I would recommend closing all doors and windows to shut out all outside sounds as they interfere with the correct understanding of speach. In my case, I had to shut off my air conditioner as the blower made to much noise. Once you have successfully trained it, then some background noise does not affect it as much.

Thanks for the advice, moving my mic farther from the computer and it's fans helped alot as well.

Suggestion: If you aren't already, use a headset microphone. They are much more consistent in terms of sound level, background noise, etc. They can be purchased for about $15.
