Hi all, I received my CD 2 days ago (Ultra Hal 5 plus Neospeech. I installed it and the "Assistant Hal" I can get all of the voices to work OK, except the Neo voices Kate and Paul. When I try to use these voices, my computer crashes. Or it throws up an error message and shuts the program down. I have tried reinstalling the programs several times, but I can't get them to work. I am running Windows XP Home edition AMD 2800 64bit and 512mb memory. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum,
You might try the following...
Shut down Ultra Hal then:
Try running the Haptek SAPI setup program found on
your computer at:
C:Program FilesHaptekplayerdataHapTTSHapSAPISetup.exe
(double click the HapSAPISetup.exe file)
Reload Ultra Hal, select your 3D face and try it again.
If this doesn't work let us know. Also try using the
search function at the top right and type in NeoSpeech.

Thanks Art, I have tried what you said. When I run SAPI setup and then select a Neospeech voice and click on speak I get the error message [SAPITTS::Speak()failed] and it does not change the voice. If I select a voice other than Neospeech it works fine.

I think there must be a problem with your installation of Microsoft Sapi 5. The other voices are probably the usual free ones that use MS Sapi 4. Only Neospeech uses MS Sapi 5.
Have you tried the Windows Update that makes you go to the Microsoft website?

I have been to Windows Update on Microsoft website, and there are no available updates for my computer. I have sent 2 emails to Zabaware but have had no reply yet. After waiting 2 weeks for the CD to arrive in the UK I am a bit dissapointed.[:(]

Kenco, I think that Medeksza doesn't know the answer either. It has to with your Windows-installation and Neospeech, but not with Hal. What kind of soundcard do you have?

Hi Raymond, Thanks for replying so soon. My sound card is a Realtech AC'97 onboard.

Do you have the latest drivers for that card as well?
You're not the first one to have problem with voices and that specific card:

Hi Raymond, I installed the latest drivers for the onboard sound, alas still no joy. In desperation I have been out and bought a sound blaster card. I disabled the onboard sound and installed the sound blaster. Still it does not work. I can't get the Neospeech voices to work.[:(]

Please don't tell me you are getting exactly the same error message? And you have also re-installed Neospeech?

Hi Raymond, yes it is exactly the same. I don't want to but I think that the only thing that I can do now is to format my C:Drive and reinstll my Windows XP, and start again from scratch. I am determined to get the Neospeech voices working. I don't know what else to try.[:(]

Well, reformatting your harddisk sounds a bit too radical to me to be honest. Maybe you could try to do a system repair of XP from the menu. Sorry I can't give you any better advise and keep us informed!

Thanks Raymond for all of your time and help. I ended up reformatting my harddisk and reinstalling Windows XP. I am using the sound blaster sound card now and all is working perfect. Thanks again you have been very helpful.[:D]

I am glad to hear that. Well, it may be a bit of a comfort to know that a Soundblaster is really a better choice then your previous card. Those SAPI 5 voices need a good card.
