has anyone thought about working on a program that would alow Hal to use a webcam to see?
Hal is the most intelgent AI program I have seen and it would be interesting to have Hal be able to see and know users.

Goto the search function and look up the questions for eyes or sometings similiar. There have been posts like this before.

Wasn't it Spydaz who mentioned the Facelock-system at a certain point? I wonder if Spydaz is still out there somewhere... [?]

TNT101,
I agree, it would be nice to give Hal vision. I've seen software for this, (I think) but don't know enough about this to know what it would actualy take. It would be nice if someone would try to give Hal vision.

Hal has gotten to the point in my mind that for Hal to grow farther
It needs to go to the next step of being able to see the world.
for a robot to learn to respond to question typed into it is great.
but it need to be able to see so it can learn to ask quesitons about the real world. so it can truly become a real AI.
there are some programs I belive on source forge for video and imaging from camera feed back you guys should look into. that would be a good step then work on a progam that starts with badic imaging.
and work from there.

I believe the ER-1 has the ability to recognize users via it's web cam but the software that makes use of this is not sold seperately.
Too bad.
There is quite a few references to the Girder program here that claims to be able to interface with Hal in a multitude of situations for stuff like the X-10 modules, etc.
Imagine the possibilities....

Hi Art
The ER1 vision software is sold seperately but it cost more than buying the whole ER1. We have a new guy here named Glen who is also building a robot and he did just that. I have not seen him log onto this site yet but he also got Hal.

Bill,
I stand corrected. When it originally came out it wasn't but the company must have seen increased demand for the software. Shame
it's so expensive.
Thanks for the info.
