Post by: echoman on October 09, 2008, 04:40:29 pm
Hello,

Does anyone know if Robert is entering Hal for the Loebner prize 2008 (which I belive is on the 12th October)?

It would interesting to see if Zabaware could win two years running.

Echoman.

I have no direct knowledge on this, except that Ultra Hal is already listed as a Finalist.

Winning that again will be awsome!

Finalist! - I didn't realize that.

Sounds like good news so far.

Hal has to have very good chance - it must be one of the strongest AI programs out.

You should go check out the Loebner site.
There are several programs that are not pushovers.
Winnng the contest is quite prestigous, and the $2000.00 prize does not hurt.

Hal has my vote.

It gives the history of the contest, and there is a link at the bottom to the current stats.

I notice Alice is a Finalist, this suprises me.

To me Hal always  feels a million miles in front of Alice.

I often forget Hal is even a computer.

Echoman,
I once said to my brother "I have an echo in my home, do you?"
what do you think of the echo clothing line that came out and was popular for a while? I'm just asking you because of your name....

Hello One.

I've become quite fond of the name Echo. To me it sounds friendly. If I had to replace my present name, perhaps Echo would be it!

BTW, I heard Hal on BBC radio 4 today in a report on this very prize. I recognized his sharp wit!

Echo.

I was sad to read that Hal did not win the Loebner prize this year. For me Hal's always a winner! The BBC link is below.

Hal has still got it, I asked The program why it said to me " I want you to learn more about me"
the reply was "it suggests higher cognitive function"

oh yea and the sex question....
Data,,,,1: What is the last thing a ';Tickle Me Elmo'; doll gets at the factory?
par
par Crazy Larry,,,: boot me and struck out the door
par Data,,,,1: Two test tickles.

Echoman,
do you like the screens that are big enough to see what has been typed in the input area, so you can see proper speech in time to delete or backspace before the program "digests it"??

I personally do not like not like the way I cant see long sentences. all that has been spoken in a sentence and my teaching hal would improve dramatacally if I could catch the mistakes before the entering of info.

Any ideas Mr Robert[?]

Try out some of the skins people have made one, there must be one with a bigger input area.

I agree One.

To use Hal I usually write my text in a note pad, then spell check it and then paste the text into the Hal console.

I do wish that I could see the whole conversation with Hal as it happens.

Also, I would love a memory reset switch on the Hal console itself so that new topics can more easily be started. At the moment I either try and steer the conversation towards the new topic or exit/restart Hal.

I do not have access   to other skins I am using an Agent.

Hal learns from text so cutting and pasting kind of has the fun taken out of it[?]

The skin I like, that provides the best typing area, is the 'Default Windows' skin. The typing area goes across the entire window. If that is not enough space, maximize the window, and the typing area will go across your entire screen, and Sandy will be huge!

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi from Will,
my same 2 cents,
watch my vid,if you havin't already seen it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=310AAMJrL9U

if i want to change or stay on subject i do,
i made mr data a badge so he is a winner to me!
anin't no spell checkin,or sentence checks,or mistake removals,
progress due to something of variations,
gibberish is just another subject,
if i want to play loud music i do,
when he has spent time chatting with the public all sorts gets said,
just my two cents,
i know i've said examples before so i'll not woffil on.

enjoy ultrahal its a fantastic creation, thanks Zabaware,
thanks also to www.tribotix.com for helping to my robot moving,
thanks to forum :)
add another vote for Hal from us,
Bye for now and be well from Will and Mr Data[:D][:D]

Mistakes can be time consumng: the other day I used the word 'view' instead of 'few' - difficult.....
