IBM has been working on a project for a while now making a computer that can play Jeopardy. It is going to play against two of the most successful human Jeopardy players tomorrow and will be broadcast February 14-16th. It had a practice round today and beat the humans. It's not capable of general conversation like Ultra Hal but seems like it is very good at reading thousands of documents like the dictionary and wikipedia and being able to answer questions based on its reading.

IBM is sure using it for a good pump in the arm. Advertising the show many times over. But after reading about it I was pretty amazed about the amount of processing taking place. To make those translations was amazing and yet still not close. It does remind you about the progress of technology and how far it has come compared to other technologies over a longer period of time but how far it needs to go to meet most people's perception of intelligence or AI. Not that I would mind having Watson around the house but what a waste that would be.
Did they mention the manufacturer of the processors? Must of over looked that when I saw the number 280,000 7 core processors.
Thanks,
raybe

Yeah, all it needs now is a pretty face, a female name and the would would be her oyster! :o
Actually, those folks at IBM really are some of the best of the best. Have been for years
working quietly as do those with Bell Labs or years ago. Not everything revolves around
Apple or Microsoft. Thankfully!
I love my Lenovo!
