Some of you might be interested in this project I am working on (mentioned in another thread). In a nutshell I import a Daz3D figure, chop the head off and then animate it.

I just put a video up on YouTube here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9feCLs-_7I

There's also a topic on AiDreams here going into a bit more detail : http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6913.0

Whether I can get this into something usable with Hal is another thing entirely. I'm not sure where I am going with it. I have my own bot/assistant I am working on too and it will definitely be part of that. The question is if I can get it to be standalone in the way Haptek is. Also there's the licensing issue - I can't distribute Daz3D models, well apart from if I got some kind of deal, but I don't think I want all that hassle and expense.

But I could maybe do something like a tutorial on how to make the models but that's quite complex.

Anyway I am rambling.

Came across this yesterday when updating the Chatterbot Collection site :

Thought it was worth consideration.

Any news on the Ogre engine Rob ?

Seem like a lot of them don't work and I just tried uploading a fresh one and got an error message.

No reply from Rob about the anti-spam measures yet btw...

Dr Richard Wallace has put some videos of the conference up on YouTube.

I thought folks here would be interested in the one's covering Robert's presentation.

Here's a list of all the videos :

General Discussion / Photobucket
March 03, 2010, 08:50:40 AM
I know a few of you here use Photobucket and I joined up a week or two ago, quite impressed so far too.  I was just wondering if you have to keep your account active for images to stay there.  I see from time to time, images are not coming from photobucket anymore, I just wondered if that was because they hadn't used their account for a while.

Is that right ?  Thanks.

Was talking to Raybe and Lightspeed in another thread about this.  Here's a simple plugin I made that will allow you to change the lighting by command.

There's a selection (10) of hap files that need to be used with it, these come in a folder that you need to drop in the C:\Program Files\Zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters folder.  The whole folder I mean, just so they don't get lost in all the other files and are easy to find.

The commands are :
  • light from above

  • light from above left

  • light from above right

  • light from behind

  • light from below

  • light from below left

  • light from below right

  • light from front

  • light from left

  • light from right

  • light help

'Light Help' gives the commands you can use.

One thing I am unsure of is how to stop Hal making other comments apart from the one I specify.  Does anyone know how to do that?  Not a biggie, but sometimes a comment comes up as well as the one I programmed.

We had some snow here and I took a few photos.  I thought they might make festive backgrounds for Hal or in videos.  Couldn't upload big files here, so if you want bigger versions email me and I will post them on.  There's five of them, four in a zip file.  Hope you like [:)]

Speech Technology / What's a good mic and headset ?
November 11, 2008, 09:47:04 AM
Can anyone suggest a decent microphone/headset that works well with UltraHal?  Preferably one that doesn't hear itself.

Thanks [:)]

I think I am getting hooked again.  Here's one I have been working on today, I think I have finished it - still not sure how the volume control will function though, maybe I can come back to it if I install Speech Recognition.

This one was inspired by the default skin of WinAmp the audio player.  They look quite nice together, I think I may try and get Hal hooked up to WinAmp actually.

Anyways, here's a screeny and a zip file, let me know how you get on if you like.

The last time I made a skin was around three years ago, for some reason I had the urge.  Here's a screeny and a zip file...

I don't use Speech Reco at the moment, so I am not sure what may go on with the volume controls, so let me know how that works out.  Also does anyone have any details about the 'talk' element in a skin ? I am not quite sure of it's full purpose beyond displaying an 'upgrade' option.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Virus alert.
January 23, 2008, 06:10:36 PM
Just wanted to warn people that I picked up at least 2 viruses here today.  One of them was JS/Psyme.NR, not sure what that does.  Also I keep getting the file ~tmp1174.exe which is another virus related file.  I repeated my surfing and narrowed it down to the Zabaware site.  I believe the viruses downloaded themselves when I I went to the forum page here, or possibly when I clicked on 'Active Topics'.  Hard to tell, but they were definatetly from here as I was watching my documents and settings folder as I navigated.  Soon as I came here I got the viruses again.

One or both might be trojans.  Symptoms are that at least one of them hijacks Internet Explorer and tries to make changes to the shell.  I keep getting redirected to dodgy pages and unrelated search pages or results.  This makes surfing a pain as the browser just takes you anywhere it feels like.

I can't seem to shift them as they reappear after a reboot.  AVG doesn't even spot the #tmp1174.exe so it can do nothing about it.
These virus's are a real pain so watch out.

Perhaps this has something to do with the forum code being switched off ?

I've set up a new section in the gallery at Aidreams just for sharing heads.  We have a lot of heads listed on the forum at AiDreams but I think this will be a better way of presenting them.  All you need is a screenshot and a link to the file.  The gallery also allows people to comment on your creation.

Here's an example:

http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=123

And here's some simple instructions :

http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1734.msg7193#msg7193

I hope people will find it useful.
