I'm using Hal and I have to say that it's great, it can really learn. I tried other chatterbots like ALICE, but they cannot learn by themselves, they need you edit their AIML files..
It would be very nice if Hal could chat on IRC! ALICE can do it in a very good way! It can reply to private messages, and it can reply on the channel too if you call it..
I read something on this forum about Hal and IRC, and I read that some people don't like it because it answers to each line typed on the channel. A solution would be to make it like ALICE, so that it can reply only to private messages, and on the channel it answers only if you call it with its name. For example:
1) "Halbot: how are you hal?", at this point it answers
2) "people say that Halbot is an human", at this point it answers
I hope we'll see soon Hal chatting on IRC!!
