Hal with seeing capability?
« on: November 19, 2008, 01:17:02 pm »
Hi,
Been using HAL here at work (SONY). Everyone here loves this program. Suggestion they had, that would put HAL at its fullest, would be to give HAL the ability to take a face from a Web Cam and recognize it. For example, I talk to HAL, HAL sees my face in the Cam and recognizes me. Is something like that possible??

Hi,
I have been looking at a SDK program for it, looks like it could work. I am even willing to help with the cost for the code. See site below of what I have been looking at.

Hi calzan.

we have a discussion going at UHEF on the subject of HAL and Cam vision for HAL.

I know how to control the program but I don't have a web cam at the moment.

at this time I am currently restoring our mountain house in sierra county and will be very busy for awhile so I don't have to much time right now.

you can setup a free account at UHEF and read the below discussion
and the Active_X code.

http://www.artificialintel.org/AI/Forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=47

when Rob is almost ready to release the next version of HAL I will try and get the plug-ins rolling once again.

Hi from Will and Mr Data,

Mr Data has a eye which i've not learned to use yet but in time,

Data's body motorsystem is from WWW.tribotix.com , which supports a eye called "Hamids eye" which robosavvy are selling,
so thats where we're at.

Bye for now and be well from Will and Mr Data :)  :]

It's possible. I think. But would probably require expensive technology.[?][?][?][?]
Mark: I'll think about it

Expense depends on which direction you go.  I've found a lot of systems that cost a lot, ie hundreds of dollars.  But there's also OpenCV which is open source:
