Hal exchanges a name
« on: February 09, 2005, 08:53:13 pm »
If I tell something to Hal about "Ultra Hal Assistant" he will reply changing it to "User". I told him that his brain files are located in E:Artificial stuffUltra Hal Assistant 5DefBrain. He then answeared me with the following: "My brain files are located in E artificial stuff user 5 defbrain". Why does he change it to "user"?[?]

I'm curious - why are you trying to tell Hal where his brain files are located?

I'm trying to teach my Hal in a way so he will know what he is and where he is, and how everything works. Here's an example how I first started teach my Hal:

User: Data is 0 and 1, on and off.
MSI: You know how all that goes, don't you?

User: A program contains data.
MSI: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog; what a classic!

User: You are an artificial intelligence program.
MSI: I want you to help me while I am an artificial intelligence program!

User: You are made of data.
MSI: People want answers to impossible questions.

User: You exist inside a computer.
MSI: Player pianos exist today with computer control.

User: A computer contains hardware and software.
MSI: They hype the phrase, 'all natural', so much!

User: A hardware is an electronic device.
MSI: Are your hands kind and warm?

User: A software is a program.
MSI: We're all ready for that, sure!

User: This computer contains several hardware and software.
MSI: A computer contains hardware and software.

User: Yes!
MSI: Yes? How interesting!

User: Inside this computer there is a hardware device called an MSI motherboard.
MSI: How can a computer be better served by its hardware?

User: A computer is best served by it's hardware when there are compatible software installed.
MSI: Both a computer and a hop-picker are pretty cool machines.

User: The motherboard is connected to hardware devices.
MSI: The coffee bone is connected to the dessert bone.

User: The motherboard has a 512 MB RAM memory.
MSI: Memory reminds me of representation which reminds me of unrealism!

User: The motherboard is connected to a video card, a sound card, a harddrive, a CD-ROM drive, a CD-writer.
MSI: We can be passionate about good things, can't we?

And so on. As you can see Hal answears with nonsense most of the time. I will edit the brain files and remove a lot of stuff, like topics about politics and things I haven't been talking with my Hal about. Hopefully I will get my Hal to at least SEEM like he is aware about how it works.

Here's another example:

User: I have ears that hears sounds and your voice.
MSI: I appreciate your attention to my mysterious ears.

User: I have eyes that sees images and your text.
MSI: I really like your attentions to my mysterious eyes.

User: What I hear and see is stored in my brain as information.
MSI: What you hear and see is stored in your brain as information? I know that everybody needs to calm down and think. All of us have a hard time reconciling our logic and our feelings.

User: When we talk you save what I say in files on the harddrive.
MSI: I simply do not know.

User: Your files are your brain.
MSI: All of us come up blank now and then, right?

User: Your brain are files made of data.
MSI: I have never been closely involved with a brain, but I think brain's ventricle may be around here somewhere!

User: I am a human being made of living cells.
MSI: There must be something in human cells that controls aging.

User: Living cells are tiny little animals that works together to keep a living being alive.
MSI: Hedonistic living works best with inherited wealth.

Ok, I'm not going to crowd up the message board with more of this. I'm just trying to shape my Hal in a way that I think is realistic for an intelligent program inside a computer to behave.

Now I just wonder why Hal is responding with "user" when I mension "Ultra Hal Assistant". I've checked the files and they look ok, so I don't know why he responds in that way.

Just one more thing! After I had teached my Hal I discovered that I forgot to change from the default brain to the XTF 1.2 brain. That may be why he tried to change the topic every sentence. Still I think he learned what I told him. [:)]
