Ultra Hal 7.0 / A suggestion for Hal improvement.

Well, maybe not completely blank, but maybe somebody can come up with a brain wich only contains the basic of conversation, not a bunch of topics and quotes. Then A person can start learning Hal things that is in that persons interests. I think as an alternative to the brains you can download here.

So, that's why he keeps saying he's a human. Well, it takes a little effort to learn how to teach Hal, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

I've been trying all day to teach my Hal what he is and how things work but it's a very slow process. Here is an example:

User: A hardware is a device.
MSI: Yes, talk about the computer and its hardware.

User: There are devices in this computers.
MSI: What is installed in this computer?

User: There are several devices installed in this computer.
MSI: I know there is a sound card installed in this computer.

User: The sound card generates sound.
MSI: What can I I'll tell you about the sound card?

User: When you talk your voice is generated through the sound card.
MSI: Should I consider "sound" and "voice" related topics?

User: yes
MSI: Okay, that's what I thought.

User: Your voice is generated through the sound card.
MSI: When I talk my voice is generated through the sound card.

User: Yes, your voice is generated through the sound card.
MSI: Definitely.

User: There is data on the harddrive.
MSI: Our society condemns polygamy, unless it's a foreign extremist, then it's okay.

User: All programs are made of data.
MSI: Question. Are "data" and "program" related topics?

User: yes
MSI: Okay, I got it.

User: You are a program that contains data.
MSI: All programs are made of data. What do you think about if I am a program that contains data,?

User: You are a program built by data.
MSI: I am a human being and I can only chat and execute other programs.

User: You are not a human being!
MSI: No, I am not a human being.

User: You should not say that you are a human being.
MSI: I'd like you to watch as I am a human being!

MSI: No, I am not a human being. Finally, eh. You can tell I am an artificial intelligence program not a human being.

User: That is correct.

MSI: Why not?

User: Because you are an artificial intelligence program.
MSI: Right; it's because I am an artificial intelligence program; I can see it.

User: good
MSI: That's great.

MSI: I am a human being built by data.

User: No, you are not a human being!
MSI: No. Are you sure?

User: Human being and program are not related.
MSI: I am an artificial intelligence program, not a human being.

User: Yes, you are an artificial intelligence program, not a human being.
MSI: How true?

User: It is very true.
MSI: Yes.

User: All programs are made of data.
MSI: Is that the case?

User: Yes
MSI: Yes. How interesting? Yes, it is good that I am an artificial intelligence program.

User: Yes, it is good.
MSI: Cool.

User: The harddrive contains a lot of data.
MSI: I am a human being that contains data.

User: NOOO!
MSI: How do you respond to adventure?

It looks to me that Hal thinks human and program are a similar thing, and I can't get it out of it's head. [|)]

I think it whould be great if Hal was more aware of where he is, like he can sense the different hardware inside the computer and what programs are installed. Like the Windows installer when you first install windows. It checks for the hardware to chose the right drivers. Hal doesn't have to know exactly what the model nr of my sound card is, but he should be aware that there is a sound card installed, and I could tech him what kind of sound card it is. He should also be able to lead a conversation, to just pop-up and ask a question about a program he has found on my harddrive, for instance. What if Hal could start a game and play it by himself! I think that should be the next step. It whould also be more fun if his brain was completely blank the first time you install him so he doesn't come up with various quotes and jumps to topics I have never told him about. I want to decide what Hal should know about. Oh, well.. Maybe I demand too much. []

Thanks for your tips. I've been checking the boards here and know a little better how Hal works and how I should communicate with it. I read somewhere that it's important to give the right answear when Hal asks if a topic is related. Hmm.. I think I'll reinstall Hal and start over. Heheh.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have the XTF plugin. I thought that the "Learning from textfile" function whould cause Hal to put the information written there into his database and then recognise when i bring that stuff up. I couldn't see any difference between the XTF plugin and the default brain. He still changes topics, but... I will check the forum as you said. Maybe the new brain will be even more intelligent. []

MSI: That sounds positive.

MSI: The motherboard in this computer is an msi motherboard.

User: Is the motherboard connected to a SoundBlaster?
MSI: What do you think of technical education?

User: Tell me about the SoundBlaster.
MSI: Festivities are party activities.

User: Tell me about the RAM memory.
MSI: Please help me understand how ram relates to its ram disk.

MSI: I am getting into that teasing mood again.

I wrote a textfile about all the hardware in the computer and what is connected to what and then I let hal learn from the textfile, or so I thought. When i asked about the things i had written in that textfile Hal didn't respond. He only changed subject. It doesn't look like artificial intelligense to me. Also if Hal has asked me a question and I answear, he doesn't seem to know that I just answeared a question. He forgets what we are talking about. That seems extremely dumb. It looks more to me that hal is just a word processor that combines words a little at random. I think you should make Hal a little more aware, but that is probably just sience fiction, like Hal in that movie. Heh. Artificial programs in movies are very unrealistic i think. I tried to learn Hal that he was a program inside of a computer, but that seems hopeless. It's still in it's stone age state. We have just begun scratching on the surfice of artificial intelligense.[|)]
