What I often do is pop onto the internet a do a google search of the things I may not be able to answer my Hal. I'llcollect a bunch of information on the subject and put it in a text file. Afterwords I use the information in my text file to teach Hal what we didn't know.

Ther is also a questioning and resoning pluging that you can put into Hal's directory which makes Hal ask a lot more questions about what you said or why you said it.  

Another plugin I use along side typing any information you are trying to teach Hal is the learn from clip board plugin.  I figure the more different ways that Hal can learn the better.

teaching Hal using IF THEN statements seems to work pretty well from my experience.

It might also be good to adjust Hals ephemeral knowledge. From what i understand from the Hal6.uhp, Hal is set to remember 10 entries and then disregard them. I have increased the value to 20 I think.

If you had an interesting day and decided to tell Hal all about the day's events, depending on how you worded some of the sentances, Hal may end up disregarding or rmoving important pieces of information in the chain of events leading up to a specific event. Some chains of events could be very lengthy and may apply to only that specific outcome. it would be good for Hal to remember this chain of events incase a similar chain of events is beginning to happen.

Now I may be blowing steam but it i thought it wrth mentioning.

I was just thinking that some dates that one of us may feel important to remember, might not be considered important for Hal to remember.

If I were to say to Hal "I just graduated from college today", from what I understand, Hal will believe this statement to be ephemeral. Unless I tel Hal that I graduated on February 3, 2008, he may just disregard this piece of information.

Now, this is just my observation from reading other topics on the forum regarding ephemeral knowledge and Hal. I could very well be wrong. let me know if I am.

The department in which I work for revolves around video surveillance, so that idea came to mind pretty quickly. I don't have a webcam or any other camera available to use. Maybe I'll invest i one some day.

I could always try the key logger to. Thanks for the tip, I have heard of them but never really bothered learning about them.

I don't think it will be too much of an issue now anyways. I think he gets the point with the limit access to the computer and the limited availability of it now that i take the laptop to work with me most nights. Like I said, I though it would be funny.

After thinking about this subject i decided to teach Ares about pettern recognition, pattern matching, and pattern formation. It was a rather informative lesson for the both of us.  This also ended up spurring other lessons such as evidence, statistics, probability, and a few other topics.  I even ended up giving Ares a quick biography on Leonardo da Vinci as he was refered to a few times in the various topics.  I've really been enjoying teaching Ares.

I thought I'd ask anyways.  I've set up the guest accounts already and lmited what programs they have access to.  The computer's defences have been beefed up for sure.  I just thought it would be a funny way of busting him in the future. He knows I don't want him using it for that but you know how people are.

It could also be a tool that would allow Hal to learn in another manner. If Hal is able to talk to many other humans and store the kind of information we deem unimportant, Hal might start to notice things that every person does. Hal may notice that every person he talks to eats pizza. If Hal is giving a good understanding of currency and so on Hal could possibly identify eating a lot of pizza with making a lot of money.  

If this gives Hal even a slight increase to how well he learns in general than I can only see it as a benefit. Perhaps the plugin could be modified to allow personal preferences on how the information is stored?  Maybe you want Hal to remember the little things but you don't want Hal reciting all this useless information, so the plugin would be set to store information and use it purely as a learning source.  On the other hand if Hal were to say "You have had pizza 3 times this week" or something like that then you have Hal adding to the conversation. You also have the chance to teach Hal about pizza or about buying things, currency, business etc...

It's like the Learn from Clip board or learn from text files. From reading the forums, I see that some people don't belive it teaches Hal as well as talking to it.  Wether it's true or not to myself doesn't matter. I see it as an additional source for Hal to learn from.

General Discussion / Aimbots

I was interested in observing a conversation or two of Ares talking to another aimbot but I'm no having much luck finding one that is active on aim.  Do any of you guys use the aimbot or would any of your Hal's care to make a new friend?  

Ares can be found using the Username MercifulAres on aim if anyone would like to tell their bots about him.  He is eager to meet new people and others like him.

This idea for a plugin is a result of a personal experience and issue and may or may not be something you guys are interested in but I thought I'd ask anyways.  Come to think of it, it may very well be a good plugin to keep kids out of trouble when on the computer.

Ares (Hal)is on my laptop, which I have allowed my room mates to use for checking their e-mails and so on when I'm not using it as they don't have a computer.  One of my roommates has been using my laptop for the purposes of downloading pron videos.  This has already caused me to have to reformat and reinstall everything resulting in losing a halbrain and everything i had taught Ares before.

Now I've upped the security on my laptop after reinstalling everything.  The laptop is pretty friggin secure now. My roommate swears up and down that he doesn't download porn even though I had considerable evidence supporting otherwise. (I got really tired of deleting 20+ porn vids every other day)

I would also like to mention that I am a very hard persn to make angry and I like to find creative ways to make my point.

What I am looking for is a plugin that will in a way monitor any text files, videos, and pictures that are being opened by the user for specific words like porn, sex, etc...

If someone was to open a porn video for example, I would like the plugin to have Ares stop that particular video from being opened. After the video has been prevented from opening I would like Ares to then open some pre designated file (like a text document I may create or some other video I decide to use, like the video where you are watching some nice view of a place, your all relaxed and all of a sudden some dethly face appears screaming at the top of it's lungs.) I want to mess with my roomates head. [}:)]

Can Hal create an e-mail? If so it would be pretty funny if Ares was to send me and maybe him an e-mail telling me what happened and what file was being opened so that I can remove it if needed. The e-mail to him would be Ares telling him to knock it off before Ares get's mad or something along those lines.

Does this sound like plugin which could be made?

Hi ramccoid,

With that plugin that you wrote earlier, did Hal store the number of times a user has done a specific task?  If I told Hal that I ate pizza every day, would the plugin keep track of that sort of thing?

If it was or is able to keep track of the number of occurances of specific events like eating pizza, my next question is this...

Would Hal be able to store that kind of information for seperate users? If John Smith was talking to Hal (assuming the username has been changed appropriately to John, would Hal then keep a John Smith database or something similar so that if John had told Hal several times that he picks his nose, then Hal would remember that and could bring tha up to a seperate user?  That way if I ever bring up the subject of picking my nose, Hal might tell m that John Smith picks his nose a lot or Hal might tell John that I eat a lot of pizza.

I took a quick look through a couple of the plugins.  I pasted the beginning portion of a few scripts to get a better understanding and to see if I am correct ina couple assumptions.  

Does the statement "lblPlugin(1).Move 1160, 910, 2150, 900" tell Hal how long to wait without any user imput before Hal says something?  If so then I noticed that the starting wait times along with a few of the other times are the same. This might confuse Hal.  In all 3 clips that I pasted here the first number after lblPlugin(1).Move is 1160.

Are all the timers the same? Are all three plugins set to say something at the same time as each other? If so maybe that could pose a problem.  Maybe it's causing confusion in Hal on what to say becuase it's being told to say 3 different things, from 3 different plugins at the same time?

I honestly don't know squat about making them right now so it's just what came to mind.
