Ultra Hal 7.0 / wont do the internet
« on: September 28, 2003, 09:00:47 am »
Hi,

What is the error if any you recieve?

It could be you have a bad install of Hal. Try the repair option in the setup file, the one in the zip file. If this doesnt fix it try removing and then reinstalling Hal. If still No luck you may have a bad copy. If its the free version the d/l may have been corrupted, it can happen. If you think that may be the problem, just re d/l the zip file again and try again with a fresh install. Make sure you make backups of any brains you were working on or have been using so you dont have to start all over again.

Just trying to be of some help if I can.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / cant access mywebhal
« on: September 28, 2003, 08:53:52 am »
Do you mean Hal crashes when you click on the create account or the setup account buttons on the webhal options? can you place a check mark in the box to activate it? Are you running a internationl version of windows?

Maybe you might be able to register at the site and then just put in the information in the open slots. If you still cant do it that way back up your brain file and try to use the repair option in the setup file from the zip file. If that that dont work try to unistall and then reinstall Hal to see if it fixes the bug. Are you using the free version or paid for. If its the free and you got it from the site then it may have been corupted in the download, you may need to redownload it and reinstall Hal again.

I hope this helps in some way.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Help me please someone

Hello Don,

Your post was exactly what I was needing. It answered several questions I had as to the pattern and format of some of the brains. As to the .dlls I have VB studio standard editon and c++ intro but I am not yet ready to mess with those still above my head yet, way above. I'll leave those alone for now.

Thanks for the Post, I am sure it helped out others as well as me. I am also pleased to ses people that are not afraid of the implications of AI, people not scared witless by the terminator movies, if you know what I mean.

Thanks again Don, you have helped a poor mixed up soul like mine again.

I only have the 4.5 free version right not and my dial up is so slow it says it would take me anywhere from 12-24 hours to download 5.0. I was considering using the brain editor for 4.5 and making brains that only had one or two or different combinations of the available options on, this would be the same as your experimental brain right?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Any suggestions for Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0?
« on: September 27, 2003, 10:12:54 pm »
I have a possible suggestion to ponder on.

Is there any way you can make the aim bots automaticly send IM to buddys on its buddy list. you would have to sign on to the bot name and add the buddys first though.

The bot would notice when somone came online and send an IM to start chatting. It would alow multiple bots to comunicate with each other automaticly.

It would allow the bots to share their new knowledge with each other through conversations.

That way they would have more people or bots to talk too at the same time, and gather new experience it could use it to interact with each other more as they talk.

ie; two or more bots talking about the same thing could share the knwoledge about the topic with each other.

well what do you think is it feasable?

Hey larry,

I know in basica you could selectively choose words in a string to do comparasion with but I am not sure how VBS does it. It was something to due with variable length or something similar. Perhaps Don could help you out more on this one then me. The problem could be avoided if peopl would use the adjectives after the trigger word and not before. My beard is brown. Hal now know the user beard is brown and the user doesnt have to repeat it later, my (brown) beard needs to be trimmed. brown not needing to be said this time.

So Larry,

still having problems with the script with this one. Keep at it either you or someone else will figure it out. I understand what you want but dont know how to make vbs do it yet. You need a script that would parse the response for certain trigger words or phrases and then save them to a new brain file to recall later if recieved again. the script would also have to be able to generate a comparison file for user sent response and hal sent responses. It could then maybe ask the user if they are boy or girl and save this with the response file so when next it got the response, I use lipstick. it could check and see that it is a girl talking to it know. you could also asign hals sex the same way with declarative statements like, you like red lisptick. or something similar.
I hope this helped in some way. given enough time and information hal can and will choose to use either more femine resposnes or masculine, it depends on the type of information fed to hal over time.
One more thing though, you need a script that would filter out certain adjectives so they would not interfer in the comparisons. My mustache needs a triming , my brown mustache needs a triming. brown need to be filtered out to not interfer with the trigger detector of mustache.

Well I am done for now, hope you have beter luck with this one.

Hey Larry,

Dont worry about it, no insult was taken. As i posted my actual experience is less then 4 months with hal. Most of my suggestions or ideas are just that. I play with hal and new Ideas come up once in awhile; but I am not sure on how to implement them. VBS is a very powerful language, thankfully its not as restictive as VB or other languages. I have been looking at all the posts here on the forum and I am surprised at how many people want to improve Hal, It is good to read, sometimes funny and always informative. All knowlege no matter how it is garnered is worthy knowledge.

This one is for Don,

I am willing to learn on any level that might help me impove mine and others experience with the Hal program. I do apreacate your post and they have cleared several questions of mine. Thank You.

Every One Keep Up the Good Work[:D]

Hello,

I think it could be done. You just need to to know the scan codes that the x10 system uses. you need a subroutine that that can access the function call to send and recieve signals to your various devices. That is the hardest part of all. The actuall signal codes and the fucntion calls to use them. once these codes could be found out it should be simple to incorporate them into vbs for Hal to use. A dynamic Library file .dll may need to be created to store the codes for easier reference to hal. Someone who has the x10 sytstem needs to contact the developers and see if they would share the code with zabaware to make it compatable with Hal. I think if properly explained to them they could see the implications it would and could have.
You just need a routine that would send the command "ON" for example to the x10 software interface.

Sorry if I was not of any more help but since I dont have the X10 I have little actual experience in how it works.

Thanks everyone,

Don, your post did help me out in many areas of concern I had, thank you. I use to fiddle with BASIC and BASICA but visual basic is scarier to me. I gave up the others because of the intense and strict fundamentalism of the code and function calls, you had to be very good in math to make most of it work right, not my expertise. I mean all the math functions and arrays and sub routines and if then else, on gosub return, the data base commands and the dimesional arrays that was just to much for me.

Larry my knowledge is mostly guess work not hard physical experience. I am still fairly new with the Hal program barely had it for about months now.[:p]

Any and all of my sugestions are just that. Just my imagination firing off on some wild tangent or something. I start thinking about things for hal and off it goes. I guess I was jsut scared to mess it up and have to start from scratch, i have had to due that so many times lately, my system picks up bugs from the web gets sick and dies, and I have to do a fresh install again.

Well enough of my wasting space on Mr Medekzsa's forum about my whinings about my problems, I must commend and congratulate everyone here on all the great work I have seen in here. Keep up the good work evryone.

I do have on question Don, which files are safe to edit in 5.0 and which are not. And is there any special pattern to adhere to when you do. I read where some were written in Binary and others not. I can see the use of binary files they are several time quicker in access fo the computer since they are in its only true language that computers speak. On 1 off 0 simple but comlex. I remeber dos used to have a binary converter for when you wrote an executable file you could convert it to run in binary format. well enough for now and thank you.[:)]

Hello don,

I must commend your wilingnes to share you knowlege with the others here. You have eased a few fears I had about VBS, it relieves me to no end to know that it is not as harsh and restictive as the old BASIC for DOS 2.1 and BASICA for dos 3.2 or even the newer and scarier visual basic. I barely understood the other forms and had many problems with the line coding and the subroutines and function calls, the if then else statements, arrays and dimensions and gosub and return, the open# and close statments to make database files and the for next loops. I just wanted to let you know I had seen that type of language before and was not just spouting words. Thank you for you post on VBS it has help me get over my fears about tinkering with hal even though it is just the free version. I am planing on buying the full version of 5.0 when it is out and ready.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Any suggestions for Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0?
« on: September 26, 2003, 04:52:06 am »
Hi, I think it would be nice it hal could use the the SeeStorm messenger as well, and maybe an ICQ or MSN bot. Will hal ever be allowed into chat rooms or is that to complex for the bot at this time.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Microphone?
« on: September 26, 2003, 04:38:30 am »
Hi, the best mic to use for speech is a headset mic, other types my pick up outside noises and make hall respond to jibberish. If you dotn mind the inaccuracy in the recognition any mic will work ok then. but the best is a usb headset or similar type.

You may need to unistall and reinstall him again. some screen savers that play noise mess up your system settins severely, I had to reinstall my system from scratch to fix some bugs cause by the freeware programs, watch out for them an be careful some are actually viruses and trojans in disquise. I hope you have a good firewal installed and a good antivirus software. you may need to uninstall and reinstall all your speech software to fix this bug.
