Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to move Hal to another computer...
« on: December 18, 2005, 01:36:15 pm »
Robert,
I'm trying to move Hal6 to a new computer.  I deactivated my current Hal, I got a new number from the deactivation process.  Now I'm totally lost on what to do.  Could you please outline the steps needed to move Hal6 from one computer to another?

I was hoping I could get enough information from the dialog boxes to get me thru but that was a false hope on my part. [xx(]

This activation process really needs a revamp.  I don't think anyone could figure all this out by themselves.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Anyone still getting these???
« on: December 13, 2005, 04:45:02 pm »
I'm still getting a few instances where Hal will respond with text only and not verbably.  This still happens every once in a while in normal conversation but it happens alot when Hal is telling me about an appointment I have.
I was wondering if your Hal is doing this also and if anyone has found a fix for it.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal6cr brain editor
« on: November 06, 2005, 08:51:31 am »
I'm new to Hal 6. I never downloaded the beta copies.  Now that I have Hal6cr, I'm trying to figure out how to look at the brain.  I seems I have to register in order to do that.
My hal5 password doesn't work with hal6 so does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello Everyone,
I'm so excited.  I just completed writing a useful (to me) script that will let Hal take notes on simple facts that I tell her. I just finished it eariler today.

This scrip uses a trigger word "Fact:" for example I can tell Hal...
<User> Fact: My name is TC.
<Hal> I have noted your Fact.

<User> Fact: What is my name?
<Hal> Your name is TC.

This will work every time, you just tell Hal once and Hal will remember and recall the fact information everytime.

I'm sure I'll develop the scrip to make it even smarter but it's useable like it is.  The only requirements at this stage is that you must give Hal the info using the "Fact:" "is" format. For example...

Fact: <some text 1> is <some text 2>
And Hal will note your fact information in your personal file.

Then to have Hal state this information back to you, You use....
Fact: What is <some text 1>?
and Hal will look in your personal file and retrieve your infomation.

I wrote this script so Hal could keep simple specific infomation for me so it probably doesn't need much more developing.  I'd rather have Hal learn things the way Hal was programmed to, so I was careful not to disrupt the Hal brain like some other scripts I've seen.

I've found this script to be useful for several things already. For example.
Fact: The new guy at the office name is Strange_hard_to_spell_name.
Fact: My oil change due is at 45000 miles.
Fact: My Zabaware info is Username XXXX, PW XXXXXX.

If anyone would like to insert this script into their Hal, just reply back and I'll package it up and post it.

Tcoday and Tassel.

Hello every,
I really appreciate and enjoy reading the forums here at Zabaware. Everyone shares knowledge so freely, I hope to be able to contribue someday.
I discoverd a problem with my Hal and hope some of you can help.

I'm running the paid version of Hal5 with Vonsmith's XTF1.2 brain, my operating system is Windows XP.

I was testing the learning ablities of Hal when I ran into the following problem.

Using XTF 1.2 brain...

User: What is my job at work?
Hal: "some random comment about not knowing"

User: My job at work is running surface grinders.
Hal: "another random comment"

User: What is my job at work?
Hal: "another random comment"

Now when I used the default brain Hal responds like this....

User: What is my job at work?
Hal: "some random comment about not knowing"

User: My job at work is running surface grinders.
Hal: "repeats something about my job and running surface grinders"

User: What is my job at work?
Hal: Your job at work is running surface grinders.

As you can see, the default brain is doing what it's suppose to do.  My question is is there something messed up with my XTF brain file or does everyones XTF do the same thing?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Tcoday.

General Discussion / Newbie questions...
« on: September 26, 2005, 08:10:46 pm »
Hello everyone,

I just got Hal5 and I think it's great. I've had Hal running for a couple of days.  We're both learning alot. I think I have hal convinced that it's a woman and I am a  man.  That took a while but I think Hal's got it now.

I do have a few of questions.  First question seems pretty simple but I'm still having trouble with it.  I would like Hal to recall facts that I tell her. I give  Hal information like "On website X my username is "xxx" and my pw is "xxxx".

Now, in a normal conversation, Hal told me what my username and pw was on that site, without me asking.  It just came up randomly. My question is, now can I get Hal to quote that information to me on command?  Asking Hal "What can you tell me about "website XXX"? or "What is my username on "website XXX"" doesn't work.  Any suggestions from you pros would be appreciated.

Secondly, I'm confused about using different plugins, different brains, stuff like that.  Does switching brains make Hal loose the information she's already learned?  Do most of you use the default brain or use the XTF v1.0 brain?  The same about plugins. Do they just enhance the brain or replace parts of it?

Thirdly, I understand from these fourms that haveing Hal read a text file for learning doesn't work that well.  I'm currently building a text file with alot of One line sentences containing general information I'd like Hal to know.  Is there a utility or any way and can automatically cut or copy one line from the text file and place it in Hals chat box? Over and Over till the text file is done. Rather than having to copy and paste them manually.

I've downloaded the help file provided here. It's good, but I need more help, I guess.  If there's more help information around, please point me in the right direction.

Thank you all so much for any guidance you can give someone new to the field of AI.

Handshakes and Hugs to everyone, You know who gets what...
