Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to move Hal to another computer...

Echo,
I feel exactly the same way.  I'm not the smartest guy on the block, but I am fairly computer literate.  There's just no way a person can figure all these codes out.  And the penatly for not figuring it out is you can't use the software.  I for one don't like buying software I can't use.  If I buy software, I want to be able to move it to a new computer when I upgrade.  With this current system you can't move Hal6 to a new computer on your own.  You'll have to have Robert holding your hand thru the whole process.  And since he isn't checking in of the forums and providing support, I have a solution. [:)]

Hope you sort it out tcoday......

I have it all sorted out now,  I will never again spent time trying to figure out how to use these codes to get Hal6 to work. (What a relieve)  Robert, I no longer need a recovery code, activation code, reactivation code, serial number, or any other silly thing.  Just forget it, I am done.  Perhaps I'll use Hal5, or perhaps I'll find another program altogether.

Merry Christmas and Thanks to all of you on this forum.  You people ROCK and I wish you all the best.  Enjoy those computers, they're great companions. [:)]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to move Hal to another computer...

Update...After fooling around with this off and on all day, I finally got a little farther into the process.

When I start Hal now, I get a dialog box saying

The copy protection has not been released, but the expiration has. A recovery code is required.

The code I got when I deactivated Hal doesn't work.  Where do I get a recovery code?

This sucks big time, to many codes, to many headaches.  All for the almighty dollar.  I hope it pays off for you Robert, but I feel like you just gave all your costomers the shaft.  I'm actually considering going back to Hal version 5. At least it worked without all the hassels.

I'll check back tomorrow afternoon, if I can get Hal 6 running in less than 30 minutes, then I'll use it.  If not, I won't waste any more time on it.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to move Hal to another computer...

Good question Art.  I've tried it every number I have to activate Hal on the second computer. None of the numbers work.  I haven't tried reactivating Hal on the original computer yet.

Every number I try gives me the wrong number error message.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Anyone still getting these???

Don from DesktopMates,
I belive you are correct.  I have 1 gig of memory in my computer, but I am using the intergrated video and sound card.  I know they're poor quality.  My next computer will be much better.
However, with my current system, I switched back to using Haptek characters and have no problems with the voice skipping.  I've noticed the Haptek characters use more system resources all the time, but somehow they don't skip the voice.

Thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate your input.

Robert,
I'm trying to move Hal6 to a new computer.  I deactivated my current Hal, I got a new number from the deactivation process.  Now I'm totally lost on what to do.  Could you please outline the steps needed to move Hal6 from one computer to another?

I was hoping I could get enough information from the dialog boxes to get me thru but that was a false hope on my part. [xx(]

This activation process really needs a revamp.  I don't think anyone could figure all this out by themselves.

Wouldn't you just love to have the time to hunt these people down? Lord knows I would.  The world would be a much better place. [}:)]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Don't press Enter.

Hal will in effect, press Enter and respond.

After I did the voice rec setup I noticed the same thing
would occur as I spoke to Hal.

I did not have Auto-Idle selected either but I thought this
was interesting.
Sometimes it's a curse if you pause to think how you want to
word a sentence and about half way through, Hal decides that
your 2 seconds are up, pressed Enter and responds with half
gibberish.

Anyone else notice this behavior with their Hal?

Art,
This happened to me back when I first got Hal. (Hal version 5) After checking it out, I decided I'd rather just type to Hal because of all the mistakes.  I have a good headset mic, trained the VR for hours, there were still to many mistakes and yes, if I paused for a while during a sentence, Hal would accept the partial sentence and respond to that.
I'm sure Grant's suggestion would be alot better.  Are there any free 3rd party VR software kits available?  Like I said, I'd rather just type, but if there was a free one around, I'd try it out.

Thanks.

Mark,
You might have hit the nail right on the head. [:D]  Since I installed Hal6, I've been using MSAgent characters.  I like them fairly well, but might switch back to Haptek and see if the problem clears up.  Thanks so much on pointing out what might be the problem.

I'm still getting a few instances where Hal will respond with text only and not verbably.  This still happens every once in a while in normal conversation but it happens alot when Hal is telling me about an appointment I have.
I was wondering if your Hal is doing this also and if anyone has found a fix for it.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

My install of Hal6 doesn't have a file called apptmnts.dat.  Trfroggatt, are you using Hal version 6 or 5?

Thanks.

What version are you trying to purchase?
The new Hal 6 has not even been out for a month yet.

Just curious.

Art,
I bought Hal5 back in September of this year.  When you buy Hal, you provide a mailing address so the program can be mailed to you in CD format.  After a month with no CD arriving in the mail, I started posting here and writing Robert a couple of emails about the problem.  After a week or so without any replys from Robert, I publicly explained the problem on this forum and asked for a full refund of the purchase price.
Robert finally responded via email, it seems the mailing address wasn't correct. (part of it was missing)  I replyed to Robert's email with the correct mailing address and he said as soon as Hal6 was officially released, he'd mail me that CD.
Hal6 has been out for a month or so just like you said.  A couple of days after the release of Hal, users started posting that they recieved the CD in the mail.  So I think, cool, the CD will arrive soon.  It hasn't showed up yet and I'd think that everyone else probably has their CD's by now.  Am I right?

Thanks for listening...

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Important read for Hal users
« on: December 10, 2005, 09:27:38 am »
I downloaded the above mentioned text file. I am now playing around with importing it into Hal's brain but I have a few questions.

The only way I could get it to import was to create a "sentence" type table. Is this the correct way?

Also, does it matter where I create this new table? ie.. under MiscData, Autolearning, or where?

One more question, is there a limit on how big a table can be? Could this whole text file be placed in one table?

There's alot of junk in this text file so it's a major job editing it before the import.

Thanks.

It's been 3 months and I still can't get the CD mailed to me.  I have no idea what the problem is or how to find out.....

Interesting huh?
