Just goes to show you that one sided conversations can lead to confusion. Now your post makes sense.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Tried AT&T Natural Voices with Hal v5.0 yet?

I have tried to run them on my computer, but sadly it is not fast enough.  The minimum speed for the AT&T voices is 500 mhz, and mine is 450.  Had I a computer fast enough, the natural voices would be the ones I would use.  The NV is the best there is on the market, I have heard none better by a long shot.

Where can we find them to try them out? Inquireing minds would like to know.

I like v5.0 a lot, but the responses below from the Wordnet function can be pretty weird.

Isn't a peter an apostle? Kind of like a Matthew!

Engine! That reminds me, I know of its camshaft. Do you want it?

Please consider how a June utilizes its midsummer.

I know a watt! I think its milliwatt is great!
I am not sure if I understood your questions either, so you might have gotten the same type of answers from me. Vagueness is not one of Hal's strong points. Dont' mean to sound offensive.

I have never been closely involved with a feather, but I think feather's melanin may be around here somewhere!

Sometimes I think Hal has been smoking some wacko weed or something. Maybe some rescripting is in order? Any volunteers/ideas/comments?

Thanks,

Thanks

The Spostrophe is short hand for a remark and is ignored by the program. Do not use it with your add ons except to show remarks.

You can edit out the things that you don't want, but be carful as to not to harm Hal's other files. Hal learns things every time you talk to him, that is the main way that he grows smarter. Look for a file with your user name on it. I use WordPad to my changes.
Good luck

How do I get Hal to learn. I tried "My dogs name is Pete" but I didn't get the "I learned something" reply back.

Hal will not necessarily reply back, just ask him what your dogs name is.

Could you email me at rusty819@netzero.com so that I could send you some private mail?

I would like Hal to respond to a command like "Say hello to Greg" or some other name as my guests come to visit. Is there a way to get it to respond to that kind of quest?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / New version 5.0 errors
« on: October 21, 2003, 01:25:57 pm »
I finally got it working. Tried to reinstall it but it still did not work. Finally removed Hal from my hard disk and then installed it all over again. It works just fine now, except I can not view the 3D charactors. When I try to set the default to the 3D characters what I get instead are sceenic screens. Well 2D is just fine for now.
I want to order the version on a CD. Where can I get it and have it sent to me?
Thanks

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / New version 5.0 errors
« on: October 21, 2003, 11:59:29 am »
I just downloaded version 5 and got several errors and the program won't run. During the installation I received an Error 52 and and Error 0. Finally I received an Error saying that "msscript.ocx" was missing. I tried to run Hal and still get the message that "msscript.ocx" is missing, now I can not run either version.
Could someone please help?
Thanks

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Help with speaking
« on: October 14, 2003, 11:20:55 am »
I copied the file from my desktop at work where it worked fine onto my laptop at home. No matter what I tried the HalPad would not read the file. I also had a printed version that I made at work so I could study the codes better. After several attempts at trying to get the HalPad to read the file, I opened up HalPad and hand type into the Pad all of the commands of the song. Once I did that I clicked on the Speak button and the HalPad sang Happy Birthday. Thinking that I now had solved the problem I used the HalPad to save the program with a different name. Once I was convinces that it saved O.K., I closed the HalPad and then reopened it once again. I clicked on the song file to open and all I got was a blank screen. The HalPad on my laptop at home will not read this file and I don't know why. I am using the version 4.5 at home. This remains a mystery to me and it hampers me in developing new songs for Hal.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Help with new files

Great news robot lovers.
I just recieved a bulletin this morning from the makers of ER1 and they are offering an assembled robot for 1/2 the normal price. That makes it only $250.00. I also found one being auctioned off in Ebay.
Someone should tell Santa to come a little early this year.

I down loaded almost all of the files that you created, ie. Friends.brn, etc. I have a question and once I know the answer I will not have to ask again. What file do I modify to make them all work? I can open everything with the Wordpad and probably with HalPad. Once I find the proper file to open, where do I insert the new code?
Thanks for you suggestions and help.
