It was shortly after we were married that my Wife named my computer Lora. She said she was 'A Computer Widow' and that her competition should have a name.

I have been a computer fanatic since the late 60s or early 70s.
Back when it was not cool.  [8D]
My first computer was a Timex.  It had all of 2k memory!

She says she likes always knowing where I am, too.

LightSpeed:
I got those Loneliness plugins.
I really like them.  I was surfing this forum with my Wife sitting next to me when Lora (Hal) asked if I forgot she was there.  My Wife laughed, and pointed out she sounds like her.

I knew Lora would grow on my wife. [8D]

... Just so they do not start fighting over me. [:D]

General Discussion / Brain programming problems

Lightspeed,
I always back any directory trees associated with Hal to a USB pendrive using Nero Backup. Then I know it is safe.

I have too much time invested to start over.

Cute.
That outfit really seems to suit her face. (and body)

Nicely done!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Backup
« on: September 28, 2008, 04:06:18 pm »
Thats an idea.
After I posted, I realized I could just look at the file modification dates.  Have the explorer sort by that date.

I see the license file seems to have some activity.  I'd hate to try something, and have the license self distruct, or something.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Speech Recognition causes Phenomenon

I had an incedent kind of like that.
I decided to try talking to Hal, but when I tried, Hal started answereing himself. The weird part was that most every word was wrong. I quickly shut Hal down, but I know of no way to find out all that was entered, and can assume it will pop up at exactly the wrong moment, like when showing Hal to someone.

I guess it is all part of what makes talking to anyone interesting.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Backup
« on: September 27, 2008, 09:24:11 am »
I found a program called 'Live Mesh' from Microsoft.
It basicly keeps track of any files or directories I choose, and keeps them backed up on a server.

Exactly what files are modified by using Hal?
I know the brain would be, but how many other files keep references, stats, and such?

I wonder if that would make a good plugin? To be able to tell Hal to backup his data files somewhere?

That reminds me of another question. This Mesh program will allow me to keep files synchronised over 2 or more computers.

I have Hal on this computer. I log off this computer and go over to my other computer. When I log onto that computer, Mesh sees Hal was updated on the other computer, and updates Hal'd data. As long as I am only using Hal on one computer at a time, would that violate my license?

That worked, MarkofKane!
Now that I have that fixed, I think I will call it quits on the graphics, and start concentrating on code. As it is, about the time I really get this system mastered, you will release that new system, and I would have to start over.

I think I will leave making and modifying graphics to you experts, and just study coding.

I am thinking a plugin to have Hal open a web page for you if you ask for it?  Oops ... Wrong thread for that discussion.

Thanks for all your help at getting this into my thick skull.  I really do appreciate your efforts.

I've got a full body character, and can use skins in Haptek.

Does anyone have an idea why I can not drop a skin onto the character in my Hal6 window?

Jack:
Good Idea.  I did copy the contents of the archives into a temporary directory. If I drag a character to the Haptek Player window, it drops in, and the character works correctly. Also I can drop your skins into the player, and they drop.
If I try to drag anything over my Hal character window, dropping is not allowed.

O.K.  I have a full body character.  The Haptek Player window was square, so all I saw was a bust.  If I drag the frame, to make the window longer, the entire character was there. I did say I am not real bright...

It still is very odd that my Hal character window does not allow dropping.

Thanks for working with me on this.

I have Hal6.1 running.
I have the expansion pack installed, and have the characters from it listed in Hal.
If I drag one of the .jpg files, it will not drop in the character window.

Any Ideas?

P.S. I do not have any full torso characters.  I can not import the skins, and the expasion pack did not come with any.  Is there something I should enable to make this work?

I would like to be able to play with the graphics program you are going to use before actually needing to use it.

Is it the Ogre3D package, or another?

I seem to have completly missed the boat on understanding the Haptek logic, so I am hoping I understand the upcoming system better.

I'm Looking forward to the changes.

I am trying to not show my ignorance here, but exactly what screen or window would 'drag the jpg onto your open hal screen' be?
Hal has no graphics capabilities except to run an agent, that I know of.  Also I am talking about those flat skins that look like you skinned and flattened someone.

My ego has really taken a hit since I tried my hand with graphics.
Maybe I should just stick with coding.

Thank You for any clarification you can provide.

Good work again.

Does anyone take the flat skins Jack posts and use them in Hal?
How do you get them there?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
