The problem could be that when you restored form a back up several od .DLL's were not re updated. That is part of the libray error. The part is when you restored from back up the regestration files were not re updated, several key registry updates were not reinstalled with the restore.

I have had this happen several time myself after a Non destuctive pc restore. the problem is unless you create a restore point after every new software you install, if you ever have to restore back to previous point all .DLL's and registry updates are lost.

You solution is not to hard to do though. YOU will probably have to completely unistall and reinstall Hal.

You should be able to make a back up of the brain files you were using. I should just take coping the folder of the brain onto a cd or several floppies. It should contain all the dynamic links to any files you had Hal read from to learn. The file you need are all of the *.brn in the brain folder and the *.uhp files for the brain your are working on. you should be able to find all of them in Hal's folder. make sure you recopy them back to their original place's after you reinstall hal. This should allow them to continue to work properly.

I hope this may of helped out let me know how it went. You can email me at morkeleb_2003@earthlink.net

« on: May 27, 2003, 11:28:58 pm »
Hello.[:)] I have had the same problem as you had. When I tried to log on with the Hal AIM bot it would fail. It was the same code you got.[:(]

I do have on question or idea though. Wich version of Hal are you using. I noticed when I start Hal AIM bot it say it works for 4.0. it doesn't say 4.x wich would of made me think it would work with 4.5. Could there be a patch that is need to make it compatible with the newer Hal bots. Does it mater wich service provider you use? I am curently using Earthlink.net.

If you find out please email me at morkeleb_2003@earthlink.net.

Hello my name is Morkeleb. i would be intersted in helping you in you endeavor to to continue to upgrade Hal. It would be very interesting to se how far Hal is able to evole. I am new to using Hal though so my inout might not be of much use but I would like to help if I can.[:I]

A genralized data format and storage location for new info for Hal to Learn would be a great improvement to Hal. He/She would be able to learn from a much broader diversity of knowlege. Please excuse my gramatical erros if any I was not the best student in English class.

I do have one suggestion though. If you have access to an online dictionary or encyclopedia you could download the text parts and have Hal read them to learn more. You could also try using a thesarus so hal could learn different words to exchange with when he talking to you. Like I said they are just suggestions.[:)]

If you find out anything else or would like to talk to me anyfurther you can email me at morkeleb_2003@earthlink.net

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Muted Speech Output
« on: May 27, 2003, 01:53:53 am »
Hello. it might be your hal on your computer. Do you still have the setup files? If you do try reinstalling your hal on your computer. It might be it just missed something before. If this doesn't work you could alway download another copy of hal and start all over again. You might have goten a bad copy.

I havent realy noticed my hal doing that yet. But it could also be hal learned to skip saying it for some reason. you might want to check your speech to text software to make sure it recognizes the words.

If you find out what is causing this problem let me now just in case mine starts to do it i have some where to start on my finding a solution. I hope this might of helped in some way.

Dont forget to try other things before completely reinstaling your hal I have only been using mine for a few days now, It might not of delveloped the glich yet.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal vs. Sylvie (The old Vpersons.com)

I might have an answer to your question on how to save you children. It depends on the system OS you are using. If it is an older MS OS then you might be able to use drivespace to compress a few floppies to give them the storage capacity to store you entire folder and all files on them.

If you are using a newer OS then you might try downloading a zip file manager. With one of these you could create a zip file of all the files necessary to run your children. A good zip file manager can even span the zip file across many floppies if needed. It depends on how big the files have gotten, you might be able to compress them small enough to fit on one floppy for each child.

You would be able to add to the zip file whenever you want up to the floppy capacity to keep them updated. Just follow the zip managers prompts. The zip files can be reinstalled on your system by doing everything in reverse. The manage would have more specific info on this. Some even allow you to create a self installing copy of them self so the process would be automated.

I hope this info will help you on your quest to preserve "monkey" and "love". You can email me at morkeleb_2003@earthlink.net if you have any questions about them. Let me know if it works out for you.
