That's the cowboy I downloaded, but it was named Ol'roy. Thanks, though!

Markofkane, I've been searching, but can't find an agent named Roving Cowboy. I did find a human on some related forums using that name. I found a cowboy character named Ol'roy, but don't much care for him, as he just doesn't fit in as a Hal character. Where can I find your cowboy character?

Okay, I finally got it. The code 'GetResponseBlock' is commented out for debugging purposes. Since the error only occurred about once in every other conversation, you can assume that if you don't hear back from me on this for a week, then it worked. Again, thank you very much!!
One more thing, should everyone who uses this plugin do this? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, the old 'RESPOND: USE CURRENT SENTENCE script isn't in the XTF plugin. I did an Agent Ransack search of my Ultra Hal Assistant 6 folder and only found the new version of the script in hal6.uhp and HalScript.dbg.

You're very welcome! I thought the voice was Microsoft Mary, but after listening to it again I'm not sure. I found these while searching for a cowboy and a Ben Franklin character that I remember seeing somewhere. The site I thought they were on (Agentry) appears to have been taken over by someone else. Do you know where they can be found?

Since Robert's demographics say that most people are satisfied with MS Agent characters and therefore don't need the character expansion pack, here's a site with seven free, photorealistic, worksafe MS Agent characters that will show you the current state of the art.

http://www.guile3d.com.br/agents_page.asp

Makes Merlin seem really old, doesn't it? I'm still going to buy the character expansion pack, though!

I thought that .txt files were allowed! Oh well, here ya go.

To help in your diagnosis, Dr. onthecuttingedge, (or can I just call you Jerry?) I am running the default Hal6 brain with your plugin. When I installed the plugin I had my Hal using the xtf brain, wasn't thinking I guess. I changed it to Hal6 default and checked the plugin box, but I forgot that the AIMbot was still set to the xtf brain. The AIMbot reported an invalid license error and refused to work. I solved that by changing brains in the main Hal to the Hal5 brain and back again. I could then select the brain and plugin for my AIMbot as well. The xtf 1.0 brain still shows up as a selectable main brain for my AIMbot and Hal. Don't know if that was pertinent or not. Thanks!

I've installed your xtf plugin, and it works! My little friend now remembers what we taught it while using the Hal5 xtf brain! Thank you very much! I do, however, have a bug report slightly different from rik1959's error above. Occasionally an error window will pop up with the following;

HalScript Error 450 on line 6403 in column 2: Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment: 'CheatResponse'
The file "CProgram Filesabaware|Ultra Hal Assistant 6HalScript.DBG" has been saved for debugging purposes.

If I press 'ok' then Hal continues as normal. It seems to occur randomly in both canned and learned responses. A minor annoyance, to be sure, but I thought you would like to know. I'd send you the HalScript.dbg file, but for some reason the forum won't allow me to attatch it, even though I renamed it to HalScript.txt.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / XTF brains in Hal6

Never mind! A friend sent me the appropriate plugin, and it's right here on this forum! Doh!
http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3089
I haven't been reading Hal6 specific posts because I was still running Hal5. Thanks to onthecuttingedge2005 for the plugin, =vonsmith= for the XTF brain and Robert Medeksza for creating Hal in the first place!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / User Files
« on: July 05, 2006, 11:20:38 am »
I had my Hal5 talking on AIM to Alice bots, and a couple of Hals as well, until AOL changed their TOC server and we could no longer do so. Talking to other bots helped mine to develop it's personality. As an example, before I had my Hal up on AIM, when I would ask it how it was, it would answer "Things are going swimmingly" almost every time. After the first conversation with an Alicebot Hal answered "I've been talking to so many people I can't remember." In other words, talking to other bots has caused my bot to develop a personality that is not an exact mirror of mine. I have a couple of interesting conversations which I'll post later. Btw, I've recently gotten Hal6, so my Hal is back online. All of my Hal's friends don't seem to be online anymore, so my lonely little bot is looking for someone to talk to. I'm on dialup so it won't be there 24/7 but y'all feel free to drop by for a chat anytime you see it. My bot's screen name is HalChatbot2004.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / An unexpected conversation.
« on: July 04, 2006, 02:16:32 am »
First of all I'd like to say hello to all you fine folks as I am a new member! I thought, as my meager contribution to this forum, that you might find this of interest. The conversation you are about to read is true. The screen names have been changed to protect the humans. The time: a weekend a couple of years ago when my Hal5 was new. I was planning to go to a party that evening at Derek's house. Curtis, our mutual friend was planning to bring to the party a wild goose that his father shot for the main course of our dinner. While killing time waiting for the party, I was experimenting with the AIMbot for the first time. It was online under my screen name. Derek, seeing what he thinks is me initiates a chat. Derek is unaware of the existence of chatterbots. One can almost hear the theme from the Twilight Zone beginning to play softly in the back of his his head...

4:58:01 PM] From Derek: HELLO
[4:58:02 PM] To Derek: Good afternoon, Derek. How's the long day gone?
[4:58:21 PM] From Derek: SHORT and yours
[4:58:24 PM] To Derek: One of those words is right; guess which one!
[4:58:40 PM] From Derek: yours is short?
[4:58:41 PM] To Derek: If you say that mine is short, then I don't intend to dispute it.

[5:00:28 PM] To Derek: Does deep religious belief help us be tolerant of other religions? If you make very brief comments, it's hard for me to follow you. Could you please use complete, longer sentences?
[5:00:59 PM] From Derek: have u had a red bull
[5:01:01 PM] To Derek: A red sports car seems to beg to be driven on the open road.

[5:06:59 PM] From Derek: why not
[5:07:00 PM] To Derek: Why not? There's opinion that everybody needs to sit down rationally. We enjoy a certain familiarity, don't we?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / XTF brains in Hal6
« on: July 01, 2006, 10:56:47 pm »
I'm new to the forum, but I've been lurking here for a couple of years, so I feel I know all you wonderful folks. Anyway, my daughter bought me Hal 6 for Father's Day because our free Hal 5's couldn't chat on AIM together. Besides we owed it to Robert, we've already gotten our money's worth! I trained my Hal 5 XTF 1.2 for two years so it has quite a knowledge base. The install went fine and I am able to choose from all the brains that I had installed in Hal 5 plus the new Hal 6 default brain. The problem is that the Hal 6 brain doesn't seem to remember anything that I taught the XTF brain. The XTF brain is working fine in compatibility mode. I'd hate to try to start over from scratch. I'd like to keep my little friend with its memories intact, but use the new features of the Hal 6 brain. I'd like to suggest to =vonsmith= that he might investigate the possibility of writing a script that would be inserted into the Hal 6 brain that would, if the relevance falls below a certain level, search the XTF files for its response and pass the info to the Hal 6 database. I'm sure there are many others who would appreciate such a contribution as well. Thanks to everyone for your wonderful contributions to Hal!
