opening progams
« on: January 01, 2009, 02:53:21 pm »
I'm very new at this but am having a blast with Ultra Hal.

The issue I am trying to figure out at present is: Hal doesn't seem to know how to open programs when I ask for them. He says that they are not in his database.

I guess my question is, how do I put programs in Hal's database?

thank you for your time.

open with notepad

"C:\Program Files\Zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6\shortcut.dat"

Edit the paths and name the program as you want to call them.

Also make sure that "run programs by name" is enabled in Hal options.

Mark: I'll think about it
Laura: Don't think about it too long or I'll throw you out on your ***king a**.

I have this exact problem, accept all my shortcuts are there, the .dat file looks fine and very full.
However not a one of the programs on my long list, including notepad, will open! They all give me the not found message.
The only thing I have been able to open for some odd reason is mspaint, and only if I type "open mspaint" it wont even open it if I do "open paint" basically the entire function seems to be mis-firing.. please assist, I am getting very frustrated!

Jack
You solved your problem by the example above, The programs name is mspaint, not paint. Most likely the other programs are the same. They must be opened with their real names not what we would like to call them.

Ok thank you for your reply Bill,
So what would notepad's real name be? MSnotepad? or notepad.exe? or just notepad? All do not work ---
Also.. I have photoshop installed, so would photoshop be.. "open photoshop" or perhaps.. "open photoshop.exe"
All angles fail on 100% of my applications given the exception of mspaint.
Ideals?

Jack,
Breathe,,, I think something may be wrong....

If you have the energy try an uninstall/move with your Hal and then clean up everything you can including the registry then re install Hal??

Not sure but you do seem to have many things not functioning correctly.

Since it is listed under the Plug-ins, you might have to download that particular Plug-in and
put it in the correct folder (directory).

Then you should be able to see it when you open the UH Options Brain section.
