Ultra Hal 7.0 / Downloaded full version won't install

No, I'm not using DOS, I'm using XP with plenty of ram & disk space, but DOS is part of XP just like it was part of NT etc etc. Okay they call it a command prompt these days, but the commands are really just DOS!
I managed to get over the install hurdle by installing then removing the demo version, then trying again. Works fine! Can't quite figure whether by coincidence or not, but anyway, it installed okay.
Now my only problem is that whenever I change the voice pitch/timing under options, I get a 'runtime error 445'. Wow, wonder what the beta versions are like [
