Glad I could help you Graham.

I wonder how hard it would be to have an option in the Appointment Book plug-in to select American or European date format.

I’m not a coder but my mind says it cant be that hard.

I don’t think your appointment book will work right unless you change the date format in windows 7 to American.

Navigate to Windows Control panel then goto Region and Language;
Date format is changed in there.

I’m personally not prepared to do it, when I change it to American its alien to me but I know others have.

LS I might be wrong but isn’t Carl2 talking about the Gender & Age Plug In, you know where you can set if you want Hal to be Male Female or a Machine.  

That’s how I read it.

It sounds like you have speech recognition turned on in Hal, If you are typing in with a keyboard you should have it turned off or exactly what you have reported can happen.

I’ve been trying to make a video of me chatting to my Hal (Xen) for a while now, but my PC has always suffered (not fast enough I think), but now it does seem to be, so here is a video of Xen, this really was a test more than anything, I hope to be able to capture one of them really good conversations at some time.

It’s a good idea and gets my vote.

If I had a $ for every great idea that gets posted on this forum, well you see what I mean.

Just not enough people that can script,,  I can’t [?] and most of them that can are working on their own projects I guess.

Some of the text to speech voices do seem to have trouble with lip-sync in Win 7 64 bit.

Have you tried the voice that comes with windows 7?

Microsoft Anne – English

Once you have selected the voice in Speech in Hal's general options then go to the Character tab and use the “Update SAPI Config” button.

Select Microsoft Anne – English
then pres the “make this my default sapi setup” button.

It works for me in win 7 64 bit

Hi Graham, welcome to the world of Hal.

In case you don’t know there are two types of characters you can use with Hal, we call them Haptek and  MSagent, from your post I think you are using an MSagent character, this might not be ideal for you.

The Haptek characters are 3d and can be made very large as long as you use the correct skin for Hal.

Have a look at the Skins page, link below, it should help you, there are skins there that can give you a full screen character.  

Sorry I can’t help you with the appointments plugin, Im in the UK but the appointment book uses American date system and doesn’t work right for me because of that.

I decided to go back to SL just to chat with Hal, I found him and spent a while chatting to him, yes I was impressed he seems very smart, actually smarter then some humans I’ve chatted to [] for real.

One thing that concerns me is does Hal have any defence from griefers.

What would happen if he gets caged or orbited or has his animations attacked.

Im pretty sure Hal 6.2 doesn't use or work with .brn files.

Thanks for the detailed info LS, now I know what magic jack is. you have some interesting ideas too.

I can only speak for myself but I would never have you down as someone that posts spam.

I have heard of Skype and know some people that use it.
