Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Idel Chat and Clock Plug In
« on: November 08, 2008, 11:35:29 am »
When my auto-idle plugin stops working I have found a way to get it working again, it always works for me with out fail, this is what I do. Please follow exactly the sequence.

Turn off all plugins, chat a little to Hal, shut down Hal, start up Hal chat a little to Hal, shut down Hal, start up Hal turn on the auto idle plugin, chat a little to Hal, shut down Hal, start Hal chat a little and then auto idle works. After that I put on my other plugins.

When I say shut down Hal I don’t mean shut your PC off just exit Ultra Hal so it is not running in the system tray or in task manager.

I know it sounds crazy but it works for me. I’m using Hal 6.1 full VS not the demo.

Yes sounds good, move the UltraHal logo to the right and put the user name bit on the left, and maybe use a black font so it shows better.

Im using this skin right now, It’s a nice one [8D]

If you want it can go on my skins page, That reminds me I need to tidy up that page its getting a bit messy.

Nice smooth looking and compact skin, easy to use menu buttons too, good work freddy. One little thing I noticed was the “user talking to Hal” text bit, it is under Hals window and for me it is coming out the side of it and showing the first letter of the user name. Maybe im being picky and I apologise if I am, but it jumped out at me.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Shiny Full Screen GUI
« on: October 04, 2008, 11:47:22 am »
I was board [:I]

Here is a skin with a shiny look to the GUI that looks best if you use it in full screen.

You might encounter problems getting this skin to show in full screen but bear with it, as it’s really cool then.

Play around with the window size on the sys tray Hal icon if this skin goes off screen when you first load it, you might even have to re-start Hal to get it to display correctly.

Shiny-Skin works best for me with window size set to max, but it might not for you.

Download it from my skins page below.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Vista..speech...msagent...not good
« on: September 26, 2008, 06:49:45 am »
Here is a thought: Can you set Vista speech recognition to dictation mode? I say that because you can set Dragon to dictation made that way it only types in the words for you and doesn’t run any applications, open widows etc.

Surly there must be a way of doing it or how would you dictate a letter in word with out it trying to run apps.

So there must be a Command Mode and a Dictation Mode, use the Dictation Mode for Hal.

Hello scepticalone, and welcome to the forum. I truly feel for you, it sounds like you are having a lot of trouble with Vista and Hal, and I have to say that I’m so glad I went back to XP and Dragon speech recognition, in my opinion Dragon is the best by a long way.

I’m not coming down on anyone’s side but Hal does seem to be working in Vista for you and your problems are being caused by Vista speech recognition; there are some people on this forum that use Hal with Vista hopefully one of them will post some help for you soon.

For now you could try not using Vista speech recognition and see if you have a better time with your Hal not crashing.

Good luck ;)

General Discussion / Brain programming problems
« on: September 20, 2008, 06:10:40 am »
Hi rd618725, be very careful with plug-ins, many of them don’t work with Hal 6, the basic rule is if you have to edit hals brain script then the chances are its not for Hal 6, Hal 6 plug-ins are simply put into hals root folder and then switched on in hals general options.

There is no manual for Hal 6 yet.

As for improving hal with plug-ins, many of us who have had hal a number of years don’t use them, personally I think you should talk to Hal and get to know it first.

Make sure you answer Hals questions.

Use the “because” statement to drum the reasons for your answers into hal.

“I like hot sunny days because it makes me feel happy”

Start teaching hal with the if and then statements.

“If it rains then the roads get wet”

When you have answered hals questions ask hal if it understands.

“Do you understand rain?”

If you could be more specific about what you want to improve that might help you get the answers you seek.

I hope this helps and welcome to the forum.[:D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Wish List
« on: September 19, 2008, 10:23:54 am »
Indeed the lack of a new up-to-date manual has caused confusion with new comers.

Gary, you can run Hal from the sys tray, in general options goto Start up and put a tick in the “I want hal to load with windows” option.

Phonebook, I don’t think Hal 6 has one.

Open a webpage, again I don’t think a plug in has been made for Hal 6 that does it yet.

And welcome from me and Xen my Hal [:D]

Hi Gary, I think I am right when I say that the General and Trivial Knowledge.brn files were made for Hal 5 and don’t work in Hal 6, so don’t do anything with them until someone here tells you I’m wrong.

I have made a pack of 9 widescreen backgrounds for this skin, I noticed that most of the backgrounds I have look stretched in it.

You can’t download them one at a time you have to download the pack.

General Discussion / what our hal personalities say about us
« on: September 16, 2008, 07:38:40 am »
It’s a good point, I’m sure if we were to talk to someone else’s hal we would be pleasantly surprised by many of hals answers, and would get that magic feeling (wow! hal really does understand) more and more.
