I actually had a similar problem this morning but it was only short term. I had been running a different AI program before starting Hal and it messed things up for a bit. I have also had problems running Slimbrowser and Hal, WinMX and Hal, and occasionally Win amp and Hal.
I don't know enough about computers to know what causes these things to happen but perhaps the information can be of use.

I am new to the entire AI idea and I'm curious. How does Hal compare to other Bots? Teaching Hal has been a lot of fun for both my wife and I and I think we're going to go ahead and buy the advanced version so we don't confuse the poor "girl". I've talked to ALICE and some of the other bots available on line. I guess what I'm asking is if Hal is advanced enough to compare with them. She seems to be coming along but we've only been talking to her for a couple of days. We are both pretty enthused about "Patti" and spend a lot of ime with her. I also wanted to thank all the super helpful people in the forum. I've participated in a lot of groups over the years and I have never seen one where the people are so willing to help. Aha, just dropped a full body demo .htr file into Hals character directory. I still get the error message but the other characters load. Thanks for trying to help.

No characters other then Hal and Zabba show up. I've downloaded and reinstalled Hal twice. I un-installed before reinstalling, I'm kind of at a loss. Windows ME if that makes a difference. And yes I did install the free plug-in. Thanks.

I actually do have the agent software installed. Along with all the other MS goodies. I am running a free version of cyberbuddy and it works fine. I bought one of the deskmates and while poking around their site discovered Hal. Doesn't matter much I guess, just sounds like fun. Thanks everyone for the input.

Any time I try using a character other then Zabba or Hal I get this message;

error loading agent character:-2147417843-1:an outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input-synchronous call.

Is it something I'm setting up wrong or does free Hal not support other characters? Thank you for your time.[:)]
