Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Reader does not read, has no voices

I just recently purchased the Ultra-Hal Reader and, upon entering the registration code, suddenly my Hal did not have any voices, will not read text, and will not allow me access to the advanced speech options or pronounciation settings.
Has anyone had similar issues and, if so, how were they resolved? Thanks for any info!
