Is there any documentation on how to use the Markov plugin?  It sounds very interesting, I'm just not sure how to use it.

Is it passive?  That is, will things just happen naturally as we chat, or should I be making if-then statements to hall?

Also, would it be safe to say I should disable the "2 deep" plugin while using this?

I never had any problems installing Hal on Widnows XP, but I've ran into some vista problems from time-to-time.

I know when you run a .net application, you need to install Microsoft's .NET framework first; I assumed it was simalar with VB-6 applications (but microsoft provided the framework by default for 95/98/nt/xp).

I know I'm not very active here, I spend most of my time on the forums reading. I'm a big fan of Ultra Hal, and I have used Hal since version 4.

This has had me thinking for quite some time now; I recall hearing that Ultra Hal was made using Visual Basic 6; is there any plan in the future to upgrade to the new framework or to another language?

The reason I'm asking this, is because support for VB6 is dwindling.
Windows 7 will still be able to handle VB6 (though you need to install the VB6runtimes, which don't come default with Windows7 or Vista), but after that, Microsoft's operating systems won't support vb6-applications anymore.

To quote Paul Yuknewicz, the VB6 Program Manager that worked on VB6 at Microsoft:
"VB6 runtime will be shipping and supported as a part of Windows 7, however there are no plans to ship it in future versions of Windows."
He had 4 reasons:
Migration is perceived as expensive, Migration is perceived as lacking value, VB6 Applications are not evolving, Applications will be retired before VB6 stops working, It's just procrastination, and There's just too much VB6.

For my Knight Rider brain, I actually read through every script of the show (only scanning for when KITT talked), and replaced the responses via database, rather than editing the script.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing (I just got done watching 2001 lol)

RH requires a lot of scripting and such that I don't want to do (or can't do) but at least that one is free.

You don't even need to know how to program, he learns by talking with him.

To answer your first question, Hal can open programs, make phone calls, keep dates and addresses, etc, by default.
Also, with the voice recognition, you can just say, "Hal, open notepad" and Hal will open the program for you

I love the Neural Network idea.  I generated some multi-level and single-level neural networks (that output in XML) in the past....
I think much more can be achieved if Hal had a Neural Network (wait.. does hal already use a NN?)

Okay, I think I am able to use this to assimilate different AIs into Hal.

I got most of my aiml files from here:

just as OTC said, it converts it to topicsearch (in CSV format) in a .txt file.

Now, it does have a slight problem; it converts it with some commands still there. I WAS however able to remove them on a massive scale using a program called HTML Remover. It bassiclly formats the input file and exports it without any HTML tags (in this case, any command left in would be read as a tag, and removed), and the exported file will be clean of any commands.

Say a line says:

I run it in that HTML remover, and now I get:

Code Select Expand

" DO YOU HAVE A COMPUTER "," I LIVE IN A COMPUTER."

Now, here is the problem I've ran into.
If a line says something like:

" THE WEB "," HOW DO YOU DEFINE THE WEB. "

Now, something like this ends up happening:
User: Guess what I found on he web today?
Hal: Tell me user, what did you find? How do you define the web.
(notice how he finds the words in he first part, and just adds the response... This will get pretty nasty if you try and import alot more aiml files).

Now, I noticed that this is converted to CSV format... And if that's the case, I can import it into the database brain (I have a nice db editor that can recognize the halbrin.db or w/e).

But, if I were to add all these new responses directly into the database brain, where would I put it? I'm assuming the mainQA would be the best, right?

I'm not too familiar with the database itself, I'm very keen on solving problems (I've successfully converted The Probert Encyclopedia's CSVs into readable clip board learning.... stuff for Hal, similar to what Art did) though.

So anyway... If I want to import all of these aiml files into the database itself (first I'd use OTC's converter to make it in CSV format), would I be putting it in the mainQA table for Hal?

As always, it would be best to backup the database first (I would hope so!).

A long time ago (hal 5 maybe), I remember someone posting up a plugin, where Hal would remember who thought him.
Like;

Emma: Trees are large
Hal: I will remember that

Bob: I saw a tree yesterday
Hal: Trees are large
Bob: Who told you 'Trees are large'?
Hal: Emma told me that Trees are large.

It did something along the lines of that. It would be nice if I could find it again; maybe it can be customized to remember things people teach it via AIM
