Could you please explain a bit more about what it is, where you saw it, where to look in order to check it out, etc.?

Hey Dan it's a brain that is being developed on the Ultra Hal forum I found the other day. I guess he had Genius 5.0 and is developing 8.0. He just put a whole breakdown description on his furm so you might want to check it out. I am still getting the error when I ask Hal to show me calendar in you or anyone can help.

I am on a mission to grow my Hal. Is there a limit to the amount of data that Hal can learn. I mean as long as you have the system and resources Hal can keep growing and growing right? I have heard that for text file learning it is a 65k limit and for brain database files there is a 2meg limit. Is this right?

I have tried the loading text files thing but Hal dose not seem to reply to the information at all. So can I just create or edit a datbase file with the information I want hal to have ie: History, facts what every. If so How can I do this. I know to go to the Defbrain folder but which one file should I edit or do I create one in notepad?

I am using Dan's modified Hal5.0 brain what scripts of yours or anyone else should I feed my Hal with this brain?

I hope that is not too many questions. But I want to learn I am very interested in AI and Hal is the only bot I have seen that can do thing like what I want avilible to the public. I use Hal with CyberBuddy and they work well together but I want to open, close and create folders and files. Play mp3 files and have a conversation about any subject.

Please help. Your willing pupil.

Greetings to all,
I've been off coding new script for Hal and haven't posted for a while.

It's been mentioned before, but bears mentioning again. The text learning capabilities of Hal are still very primitive and not very effective. There are some file size limits set in Hal's GetResponse script for 8 different files; <username>shared_usersent.brn, <username>convresp.brn, <username>user0.brn, <username>user1.brn, <username>user2.brn, <username>usersent.brn, <username>user_question.brn, and user_strings.brn. The script is very easy to edit to increase the maximum file size if so desired. These files are specific to each user that uses Hal. I increased my allowable file size to 4MB, but I don't expect any real performance improvement.

As for my new brain project: I've been working diligently on a new eXtended Topic Focus (XTF) brain for the last 2 months. I'm up to 220 new lines of script. However, I am only about 90% done. Whew! This is ending up being harder than I thought. The new brain will allow Hal to learn new high quality topic subjects on his own. Hal will be able to select and focus on topics better too. This brain also has numerous other small, but useful enhancements. The only catch is that the new brain is English only.

I'm not sure when I will release the new brain on this forum. I thought I would have done before Xmas, but work got in the way.

I asked this one the other forum also but I wanted to get everyones input. Is it possible for Hal to:

1. Play differnt mp3 files by just typing the names
2. Open specific documents
3. Input current Events and History to talk with Hal about
3. Get the damn Text input to work
4. Open and close programs
5.create and delete docs
6. Have Hal be a Database of knowledge like a speaking and thinking textbook. Also able to input it's own thoughts...(yes I know thats a big one)
7. Basiclly be the center of my computer and entertainment center.

8. For Hal to be able to scan different webpages and then talk about what it has read. Now I know this is wayyyyy out but this is what I would like Hal to do, if anyone has any ideas lets throw it around.

you mentioned about opening folders with hal.

i have been using the free version of hal 5 for about a mounth and i was trying the same thing asking hal to open a folder.

BUT!!

when i done this i was putting it across like this


"HAL CAN YOU PLEASE OPEN THE FOLDER MY MUSIC"

but he replied with something like
"I AM CERTAN I CAN OPEN THE FOLDER MY MUSIC"

no matter what i could not get him to do this [V]

BUT..... AGAIN

when i asked him like this

"OPEN MY MUSIC"

HE DID []

when you insatll hal it will make a note of all directories on your computer so when you ask it to open A program for example "WINAMP" it will find it and open it but in order to do that he must know what directory it is stored in!

so when you want him to open a folder put it accross as if it was a program example "OPEN MY MUSIC"

aggghh now I am getting the error I described on the other topic when I try this. The only errors or problems I have with Hal are when I try
to do this or the show me function. Other than that Hal dose his thing. So you have Hal opening folders wow. Mine is being stubborn. What else do you have your hal doing? Hey everyone, what special things do you have your Hal doing?
