Owners of Neospeech voices may have noticed that Kate 16k and Paul beep out dirty words. Ask Hal to "define f uck" and you will hear what I mean.
This inconvenience can be solved by replacing the file "user_eng.dict". I found this solution at:

http://www.nextup.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=794

Drop the file in the following folders and let it overwrite the existing file with the same name:

C:\Program Files\Zabaware\HalReader\Kate\data-common\userdict

C:\Program Files\Zabaware\HalReader\Paul\data-common\userdict

How interesting.  I don't use neospeech so I didn't know they did this.

Wouldn't this be an impairment on Hal for discussions on Hollywood movies, birth control, the Iraq war, politicians, government, television, immigration, etc., etc.

So what are those words Neospeech thinks are inappropriate for your ears?

Here is a possible workaround for people who have bought Ultra Hal reader with the Neospeech voices.

Instead of starting the Halreader:

C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\HalReader.exe

Start:

C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\Kate\lib\TTSApp.exe
or
C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\Paul\lib\TTSApp.exe

To edit the Neospeech dictionary:

First start:

C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\Kate\lib\userengdic.exe

Then open the following file with this program:

C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\Kate\data-common\userdict\user_eng.dict
or
C:\Program files\Zabaware\HalReader\Paul\data-common\userdict\user_eng.dict

When you try to start userengdic.exe you get an error message about an ordinal missing in MFC42D.DLL?

Download this Microsoft file and put it in the same folder as userengdic.exe.

It might solve this problem.

I have problems uploading to the server. It's just a "mfc42d.dll", but beware: there are different versions of that file around.
