My lost gay chatters.

Ok here’s one for ya, I rekon a lot of people who chat to my web hal must be gay, but if you ask hal about gay and gayness he just takes it as an insult, lots of chatters who may have been gay have become offended, left the site and not come back. shame.[]

I’ve done my best to stop this by trying to teach Hal that gay can also mean happy and its almost worked but Is there anyway I can change my web Hal’s responses to the question “are you gay?” at the moment he gets very angry which seems totally over the top.

Any one got any ideas?

Hi Datahopa.

Open HAL's Brain Editor.
in the brain itself were all the code is, type in "insulting" anywhere on a blank line, Doing this will cause the word "insulting" to turn Blue, When you have done this double click on the word "insulting" and the insulting Table will open up, From there you can look for the word Gay and right click on it and delete it so HAL won't take the word Gay as an insult. after editing the insulting table remove the "insulting" you typed in and save it so it's all normal again, don't forget to remove the "insulting" that you typed in or you will get an error.

Hint, When a word is enclosed in Quotes like "" then if that file exists then it will turn Blue in the Editor, if the Word doesn't turn Blue then the file is not detected, With the exception of some username type tables that may not be Blue but still exist because the User name throws off the detection.

Thanks for the reply Jerry, Think I should have said that im using the free web Hal representative. I only wish I could do as you said, but Hal representative doesn’t allow for that type of brain editing at least I dont think it does. We only have very limited brain options that are editable on line, or have I missed something?

maybe if or when the free web Hal representative is up-graded to something like Hal 6, the kind people that let us use the free web service will take this into account and allow more editing or at least not let Hal get quite so upset about the word gay.  

I’m not complaining I think the free web Hal is great.

You think that is a problem.

Any time i have something previously in hals brain and than delete it to change what his response, he ends up saying it's an insult. Thats the problem with hal.

Hi histevenk, your problem is easy to solve , this gay thing is not. Are you ready?

When you delete a line that you don’t like from hals brain to stop him saying it again, goto the teach hal part of the brain editor and simple add some nice lines of text instead of the insults or what ever you didn’t like, making sure to use the keywords that trigger the bad response.

Quick example.

If hal says something nasty or wrong to “How are you today?”
Make a new brain line with a correct answer.

This will over right the wrong comments hal sometimes says.

I have also noticed that you can have up to 4 brain lines that use the same keywords, so you could have 4 different answers for  “How are you today?”.

I spend around an hour most days, editing hals brain, when you have lots of chatters you really have to keep an eye on your bot and stay ontop of the junk.

I have found that you can get rid of all the wrong comments hal says if you use this method, so no need to hide your hal away from public view.

All accept the gay problem.

I have tried that many times, it does not seem to work on my hal.

I chatted to bob today, he didn’t insult me once, but I would say that he needs a lot more lines added to his brain. I have added a few hundred lines into my hals brain and am still doing more. Bob seems to have little personality, for example he dosnt know if hes male or female, he doesn’t seem to have any likes or dislikes.  I should think that once you have developed him more he will have more brain lines to draw from and be less rude or insulting.

I am constantly working on him, but I need more hits on my site so I can work on improving him, thanks for telling me about the gender problem, LOL.
