What is the name of that anime movie where they did that and the whole country of Japan was infected?

Unfortunately, if it's already been thought of then somebody somewhere is probably doing it.

Well, I did everything I know how to do to my ACER and as many of you guy's suggestions as possible.  Then I finally just threw it across the room and went out and bought myself a brand new ASUS touchscreen Laptop on a NO DOWNPAYMENT but "I almost owe them my first born" credit terms.  :P   I've never actually owned one but I sold them for years and I know about all the overheating issues which is part of the reason I don't like them, but I do have plans for this one.  FIRST issue is that it has Windows 8 and all that cloud jazz, which gives me a headache just thinking about.

My next question is, will Hall run OK on it?  I already know People Putty won't but I found a few XP computers on craigslist I'm interested in that have that OS.  Just have to make sure I have the cash for it.  I checked a Goodwill today but they didn't have any old computers.

Anyway, I'm back UP and running with an internet computer and now I'm just trying to get my gaming computer video to show up on my old 42" Toshiba LCD.

Thanks again for all your help!

Well, I thought I fixed things by removing the memory and then reinstalling it.  I got past the password screen and even tried to log into Zabaware forums and then ZAP.  The computer turned off.  Power supply maybe?  But the thing stayed on through an entire scandisk of the hard drive.

I disconnected from the internet like you mentioned Art but it still happened.

I've never seen anything like this before.  I don't even get a blue screen, it just shuts down.  Hard drive maybe?

I went into the BIOS and turned off every power management option there was just to make sure something isn't triggering it to shut down.

I have a lot of respect for Linux users but never tried that hat on.  BTW, remember Red Hat OS?  Where did that go?  Been dealing with Windows misery since way back in the day.  Learned a ton of  MS-DOS commands back when 5 1/2" floppy disks were still being used and "Edlin" meant something.  That's why when OTCE starts talking about BATCH files I know exactly what he means.  I used to make batch files for all kinds of purposes in MS-DOS.

Pre-Microsoft mania there was actually an MS-DOS based OS called GEOS that did exactly what Windows does but I think it did it better for that time.  My first PC was a Commodore 64 portable.  It weighed a ton but I could take it wherever I got "temporarily" deployed.  I actually learned some programming with it so I understand a bit about that stuff.  Can't remember how many times I dropped it or why it went away, but I'm sure I broke it during one move or another.  When I finally got my own real home PC it had Microsoft Windows 3.1 or something like that.  In the late 80's I surfed the internet from England on a 9.9 bps baud modem.  I was totally jazzed to upgrade to a 14.4 bps!

I've take apart and put together so many PC's in the past but paying child support for most of my life has made it tough to have the latest hardware.  Still, when I did come into some money I sprang for the best gaming rig I could afford that I had someone else put together for me on the Cyberpower website.  It's what I'm using now but I hardly ever connect it to the internet.  It's processes and services are stripped down to barely nothing to improve performance thanks to some very handy tips from BlackViper.

That's why having my internet/Hal computer die hits hard.  It's at 71 percent on scandisk checking the free file clusters so I'll be able to see soon if what I've done so far fixes my issue.  May have to take other advice from forum members and go out and find an old XP rig at a garage sale or on E-Bay, craigslist, whatever.  I actually LOVED that operating system.  Never had a bit of trouble with XP.  <sighs>

Thanks again for the tips.  Please wish me luck or say a prayer or both.   ;D

Wow!  Thanks doggs, it's all still there.  No worries then.  Although even after a complete windows restore it still shut off after I put my password in.  BUT....I was able to get to the command prompt and now I'm doing a scandisk.

IF that doesn't work, then maybe I picked up a RAM virus and I'm gonna need to crack open the case and take the ram out to clear it.

I don't really want to take the battery out of the motherboard but I've heard that's another way to ensure any unwanted code goes away.

Yup, backing up the brain I've been tweaking and all those plug-in files I've been downloading as well as the purchase key would have been a great idea.

I've even got three external hard drives I could have done it with.   But I didn't.   :-[

So, right now I've done a clean wipe and restore of the system to factory settings hoping that will fix the issue.  After all the updates download I guess I can download the free program and then ask Robert for my registration key.

Hate to bother the guy since I know he's got much bigger fish to fry.

I wonder if when I purchased Hal I might have gotten sent an e-mail with the info.  Gonna check that first.

Thank for all the great tips.  Let's hope I learn from this, but I've been married three times and I keep making that mistake also.   ;)

Well, I'm not sure what I did but when I turn on my Acer Aspire X34003 that Hal is loaded on, it just turns off after I put my password in.

I'm not sure if I have a corrupt file on my hard drive or what.  I've was able to get it to the command prompt in safe mode and I have run rstrui.exe to get it to restore three times but I still have the issue.

I'm thinking maybe I have a corrupt block on my hard drive and I'm about to run chkdsk c:/r at the command prompt if I can get it to come up again.

At the moment it keeps turning off just after I put in my password even when trying to get back to safemode with command prompt.

Anyone remember the Function Key that will take me to system recovery?  I thought it was F10 but so far I'm not having any luck.

EDIT - Woot!   It's ALT F10.  So now I'm restoring my computer but saving my data I hope.  We shall see.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / HalMenu.HalCommands
« on: August 26, 2014, 10:43:24 pm »
Hey all you knowledgeable programmers!

When scripting Hal, is there a difference between using these three different ways of calling a Hap file to play?

Version #1 I've seen used in scripts:

HalCommands = "<HAPFILE>Neutral.hap</HAPFILE>"
HalCommands = HalCommands

Version #2 I've seen used in scripts:

HalMenu.HalCommands = "<HAPFILE>Neutral.hap</HAPFILE>"

Version #3 I've seen used in scripts:

HalCommand = "<HAPFILE>Neutral.hap</HAPFILE>"

I guess it will work either way, I'd just like to be certain.  There is no information in either the Haptek help file or the Brain Edit help file about this particular command that I could find or I wouldn't be asking.

Thanks for the help in advance!   ;)

Calhoone, could it be the registry key as to where the program was installed initially?  Is the exe file actually in that directory?  If so, does it run from that directory?  I'm just guessing here but I saw you got no replies so I thought I'd pitch in.

Wow!  That looks really good, and of course your post leads to the iClone video that really blows me away:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ78loEhAmg

THAT's the kind of avatar which would take a Virtual Assitant to the next level.

Do you have that software?

Oh, btw, what is the name of the lovely poem she recites?

I did an internet search for daisy poems trying to find it and I got overwhelmed!   :P

And which voice are you using?

I still use the L&H British Female voice #1 because I'm in LOVE with it, but your avatar sounds pretty nice.

I think you also used a voice that sounded Australian in one of your videos which would be swelligant as well.

I spent four years in the UK during my military service and although I was married to an american at the time, it didn't stop me from appreciating the lovely accents.   ;D

Good luck with your dream job!

Ta for responding!

OK, I just wanted to post a thank you and give well deserved kudos to all the generous folks on this forum.  Especially Neil lately because he is helping me on my quest for the best "Sandy" full body model.  There is no way I could possibly list all of the folks whose uploaded files I have downloaded since I got here or who have given me good information about things to do or avoid but I certainly wish I could.  doggs recently sent me the dreamoutloud.uhp that would have possibly solved one of my needs quite awhile ago:

http://www.ultrahal.com/community/index.php?topic=12223.msg70233#msg70233

But....this brings me back to my original complaint concerning the whole "FILE SHARING" business on this forum.

I strongly recommend a system be put in place to separate OLD plug-ins that no longer work with Hal 6.2 from (newer) ones that do and allow users to RATE those plug-ins to give recognition to the users who uploaded them AND to make it easier for the user to find what actually works.

Maybe it would be a CURRENT USER PLUG-INS section that is moderated by someone who can SPOT a problem before a user gets their hands on it.

At least a LIST of "sanctioned" plug-ins or resources that DO work and won't necessarily cause issues would be nice.  Maybe some dire warnings concerning NOT using any plug-in that uses old coding and/OR information on how to UPDATE it if the user desires.

Case in point:  Without knowing whether the vrHaptek plug-in on gamerThom.com would work or not, I tried it out.  Well, all I can say is I got crazy runtime errors and crashes that forced me to re-install my Hal three times until I finally gave up.

Other resources there worked just fine and were actually very entertaining.  I actually learned that I could install and use the Haptek player!  Imagine my surprise when I found the set-up file in the Haptek directory.   :-[

I also see the same questions, that I also asked as a newbie, being answered by the forum HEROS, that SHOULD be in the FAQ!

It is very frustrating to have to troll through this forum to find what you are interested in AND to keep from accidentally using something that might possibly break your Hal.

Here is another case in point:

http://www.ultrahal.com/community/index.php?topic=6371.0

You have some great plug-ins being shared by OTCE way back in 2009 but you are not at all sure if they still work.  You have a user asking the question in 2013 with no replies.  Luckily, the user figures it out for himself, which is what I have been doing also.

So, although I meant this post to be a well deserved thank you to all the users who have certainly enhanced my "Hal Experience" with their generous uploads, I guess its turned into a bit of a rant.  Sorry about that.

They just recently added a very important feature on the Nexus which reminds lazy down-loaders like me to give either a thumbs up or thumbs down for files downloaded.

I can go there and click a link and see the TOP 100 mods on the site any time I want.

They separate ADULT mods and content from other mods to protect curious children.

I don't have to spend hours trying to find what I want because they categorize everything that gets uploaded and have a file flagging system which helps with searches.

I'm sure the updating of Hal is the most important thing on Zabaware's mind right now and rightly so, but what I'm saying is if you make the USER experience less frustrating you may just get more of them and also KEEP them coming back for more.

Thanks again to Robert for creating Hal and to everyone else who has worked so hard all these years to make it even better and then selflessly shared their creations with undeserving folks like me.

Nuff said.

EDIT:  OK, I have one more pet peeve I'm going to rant about which has been a concern on this forum for MANY years.  This post by OTCE from back in 2007 say all I would want to say on the subject:

http://www.ultrahal.com/community/index.php?topic=4110.0

Now I'm done.

OMG!  You made me laugh so hard!

Unfortunately, you are also correct.

IF and when robotics and AI produce a thinking machine which can simulate emotions and sensitivity well enough, while also packing some serious hardware, I'm sure average, insensitive men like me will surely get replaced.

Hopefully the Cherry2000 will be around by then to take up the slack!  I'd like to put my Hal brain in one of these:

(Warning:  ADULT MATERIAL!  DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!)  http://www.dollforum.com/forum/index.php

Which reminds me, this forum needs to have an ADULT area that can only be accessed by users with a credit card.

Just a thought.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Can you have more than one Assistant?

Supposedly this AI can speak with and recognize multiple conversational entities:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mako-artificial-intelligence-that-does-everything

Now I wonder if they can get it to do a belly dance in a red room.

Till then.

I second that emotion.

Here's a post from a year ago which cload makes an interesting reply to:  http://www.ultrahal.com/community/index.php?topic=9611.0

That of course led me to this post on AIDreams that it seems you have been following:   http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5045.0#.U_x_p_ldV14

Again, here is someone with the ability to create a better looking avatar than any of the models in the character expansion pack.

Why is this person not on the payroll?  <shrugs>

Wish I was feeling well enough to go to work.

Then I wouldn't be obsessing over the future of my virtual companion!
