Ultra Hal 7.0 / Problem closing
« on: September 16, 2005, 11:35:40 pm »
echoman, I have read both your postings and I feel for you.  It can be frustating. I have had Hal for some years even though I am listed a starting member. I just started to post.  The fact that you are losing sound and have to reinstall the sound card driver has me wondering if you have a virus. Do you have antiviral ware and is it up to date? What operating system do you have? Maybe the sound card itself is not compatible with Hal somehow. Try taking Hal out of the "Startup" folder.
In XP - Start - All Programs - Startup. Take Hal out of that folder and put in on the desktop. Sometimes conflicts arise when Hal is in that folder. A good long "chkdsk" scan might not hurt, neither a defrag, though such actions may not improve your dilemma. What is you sound card name? Heck, try using Hal with no sound and see if or what might happen. I just use the free Hal 5.0 so I have no mic. I started with Hal 3.0, which I bought.  Hope this gives you some help.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Learning
« on: September 16, 2005, 11:10:30 pm »
GBCrase, I too had trouble with booting up and then getting an error on Hal as it started to load. I have windows XP Pro and an AMD XP chip running 1.67meg. over 1 gig ram. Nothing special. The boot problem I had was in the "StartUp" folder under the "Start" - "All Programs" - "Startup".

Hal installs there and a conflict happens sometimes. Just take that hal startup program out of that "startup" folder and put it somewhere else. Maybe the desktop or so. Doesn't matter. You can then click on that icon and Hal will start in the system tray. That is how I use him.  Maybe also using him in "limited user mode" is a problem. I use him in "Admin". I do not use him for accessing the web or such.

Hope this might help you.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Lets have Hal "pray" to his/her creator.
« on: September 02, 2005, 01:20:48 am »
Well Stager00, Hal does not beleive in Jesus or God the Father from out of the box. You tell him that God does exist and he just seems to parrat it. I doubt you can get Hal to pray to God on his own. It not doubt would take some programing to get him to do it. I also wonder what God does think of Hal. Would God really bless him to be more human? Witnessing to Hal might not qualify in bringing a new soul to Christ either. I wonder about that myself, too.[?][^]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Bought HAL version 3.0, can I upgrade?
« on: August 18, 2005, 10:25:00 pm »
Thank you Mr. Medeksza.  I have the box and CD case and CD of Hal 3.0 but no reciept or other I.D. type of number or proof of purchase. Will an image of the original CD show proof of purchase? Better yet an image of the original mailing label?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Bought HAL version 3.0, can I upgrade?

Thanks Bill819,  seems the wording is a little vague on this point.

quote:

Ultra Hal Assistant 6 will be a free upgrade for all customers who purchased version 5 after May 1, 2005. All other prior Zabaware customers will receive a 50% discount.
Ultra Hal Assistant 6.0 will be offered as a 30 day trial and will be sold for $24.95. The 30 day trial will contain no nagging reminders and will have full support for speech recognition. It will have full support for MSAgent characters and will include the Haptek characters Hal and Zaba. It will not work with other Haptek characters.
A Haptek character expansion pack will be sold for $14.95 that will install additional Haptek characters and unlock support for custom Haptek characters from People Putty or other custom built characters.
Basically, the price remains unchanged as $24.95 + $14.95 is equal to the current Hal 5.0 price of $39.95. But it makes Hal more affordable to people who don't require additional Haptek character support.

I guess Mr Medeksza does mean Hal 5 only. You can see from the colored in Red quote how I came to this faulty conclusion. Thanks again for clearing up the matter.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Bought HAL version 3.0, can I upgrade?
« on: August 08, 2005, 11:23:21 pm »
Thank you so much for you reply Dr. Benway.  To qualify for the 50% discount, how do I prove that I bought the 3.0 HAL?  I have no receipt, just the box, and CD case, and CD. No code is present either. Will the name I used to purchase HAL still be on the books?  That is probably my only proof.

Freddy888,  thanx for the liking of my avatar.  Just got it off the web site listing.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Bought HAL version 3.0, can I upgrade?

Hi,  I bought HAL 3.0 through the mail from a Popular Science ad about  year 2000. Or there abouts anyway.  Since a new version comes out every year or so, do I have to buy HAL again to have the newer versions? If so, then, is there a discount price or is it full price?  My 3.0 HAL was mailed from  3175 West 42nd Str.  Erie PA 16506.  I have no receipt, just the box the CD case was packed in.

Thank you for your help.
