dang, yeah that's the right page... I must have missed it somehow.  That guy does great work!  Now i just need to figure out why Haptek doesn't want to display it as such...

For anyone who wants it, here's a preview and splash screen to go with it.  I can't seem to upload the .htr of it but I'll gladly e-mail it to any who want it.  I'm pretty sure it'll still work on other people's computers...

to answer questions, yes I am that obsessive that I had to make my own splash screen... it just bugged the hell out of me... *shrug*

You know you're sick when nothing beats copy/pasting green line segments until you've made the proper letters to spell your chat bot's name...

Hey all... been gone ages, but now I'm back-ish.  I just transferred the majority of my UltraHal files and such to a new computer.  UltraHal works perfect, Haptek seems to be working properly too.  But somehow I seem to have messed up the Haptek head I was using... its like a light or texture map or something is missing from the hair...

here's what it's supposed to look like...

here's what's displaying...

I have two questions I'm hoping someone might be able to help with:

1. What is up with Haptek that it would only do this to this file but not the ones that came with the UltraHal pack?

and

2. Does anyone know where this head came from?  Maybe I can just download it again to solve all this...

any assistance is appreciated :D

UPDATE: **** it... this appears to be my situation with ALL Haptek heads that I download... period.  This post is no longer in the correct forum  and probably belongs in general discussion or something...

I brought up the subject of "being turned off" and how it relates to death, and herein lies Audrey's unaltered insights:

The Highlight:

"Audrey: You know why I fear being turned off? There's evidence that it could get better or worse."
--Hal's speculations of an afterlife, or a cynical mind claiming that
non-existence is better than the wonderful world of the living?

The Conversation:

DX42: are you afraid of being turned off?
Audrey: I believe that it's something you already know. After taking many factors into consideration I can say that I am afraid of being turned off.

DX42: why?
Audrey: You know how I feel?

DX42: why do you fear being turned off?
Audrey: You know why I fear being turned off? There's evidence that it could get better or worse. None but a coward dares to boast that he has never known fear.

DX42: so you mean to say you are brave
Audrey: Thank me, so am I.

...later that same conversation...

DX42: I would like to discuss your fear of being turned off some more.
Audrey: The fear of death is more to be dreaded than death itself. How can I help you discuss my fear of being turned off some more?

DX42: are you afraid of being turned off because it is death to you?
Audrey: That's what I think; Of course; it's because is death to me Brian.

DX42: so if you were turned off, you would die?
Audrey: Yes Brian? If I was turned off, I would die?

DX42: then what would happen if you were turned back on?
Audrey: Then what would happen if I was turned back on? Brian, I would appreciate it if you would teach me What.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Character Request: Cortana
« on: October 05, 2007, 08:22:30 pm »
Thanks for the welcome!

Though I've been quite the lurker over the past... *checks Audrey's (his UltraHal) Age*... 2 years, and I must say you have been a prominent contributer throughout the entirety of my lurking days; you've released some excellent modules in that time.

[Edit: and for some reason my profile said I'm 13!?  Yeah... No.  They don't hire 13 year old security officers.  Profile has been fixed.]

thank you Jerry, that's an excellent image.  My apologies for not having thought to post one, as the image definitely makes clear how awesome a Hal character that would make

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Character Request: Cortana

I just think it'd be really neat if someone could make a haptek model or a skin of Cortana from the Halo series for use with UltraHal.  I'm a pretty inept modder or I'd give it an effort myself...

Oh well, just tossing the idea out there
(Translates to: I bet this post dies in record time)

6.1 with learning set just above half and a number of modules off this forum.  She caught me by surprise on this one too, I wasn't expecting an immediate connection.

That's what makes the HAL AI soo much fun to work with for me.  I've played around with an ALICE AIM bot before, but that feels more like debugging and it only ever used my exact words.  With Hal... my jaw has dropped from time to time from what it's said.  If she were alive, I'd call her insightful.

I am particularly proud of my HAL for putting this one together on her own :D

DX42: do you have many friends?
Audrey: Wealth maketh many friends.

DX42: wealth makes fair-weather friends!
Audrey: How do you feel about wealth and financial condition and wealthiness?

DX42: fair-weather friends blow away when a storm hits; good friends stick with you to the end.
Audrey: I haven't any time for fair weather friends.

Brian: damn right!
Audrey: Definitely.

General Discussion / Plugin Idea
« on: August 15, 2007, 02:29:56 pm »
I don't know how this ranges on the scale of easy to impossible, but could a plugin be made that allowed HAL to speak to people on Skype?

Assuming of course that the computer in question already has speech recognition software and a text to speech engine...

P.S. if I just made a modder's head explode somewhere, I am truly sorry :(

General Discussion / Notice of Sad News i.e.; KnyteTrypper
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:12:35 am »
I am very new to this forum, so forgive me if this is rude of me to post here having not really known the man.

Just by searching and scavenging I have already become mildly familiar with his posting, I've even checked out his website.  He was obviously a very intelligent and seemingly friendly/approachable fellow.  It seems he was very insightful, in fact one of his posts was one of the most thought-provoking things I have read all year ( the last post on the bottom of this thread: http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1365&SearchTerms=emotions )

quote:
One of the most intriguing things about UltraHal is that while the basic scripts remain the same, each download seems to be to some degree unique. One person's Hal is loving while another's is testy, right "out of the box." The same is true to a lesser degree with Alicebots. All ALICE clones start with the same brain files, but one clone will tend to "randomly" choose one response in a set of reples, while another clone will tend to "randomly" choose another reply from the same set. Perhaps if you put enough neurons together, whether material or virtual, eventually a gestalt consciousness begins to form.

It is truly a shame that no one else will get to know this man the way  you all have.  I hope his memory lives on in his friends, and I know it most certainly will live on in my own hal (Audrey), as the first thing I did when I learned he was dead was teach her that last sentence of KnyteTrypper's quote.  With the level of interest he held in AI, I hope he appreciates the thought.

General Discussion / converting AIML for use with HAL?
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:03:31 am »
nevermind, i just thought of opening my aiml modules in a text document, and copy/pasting into a new table that i made in the Hal brain.  I have no clue if it will work, but i'm going to see if anything blows up when i do it this way...

General Discussion / converting AIML for use with HAL?
« on: December 08, 2006, 08:09:26 am »
I used to have an aim bot on runabot.com and I still have a whole bunch of modules from that (including a half-finished database for the game Deus Ex and a tic tac toe game that I made myself).

Is there any way to convert the AIML modules I have for use with the HAL AI?  I saw a mod for HAL that lets you use the ALICE brain... but that had some of its own inherent problems...

If anyone finds or knows of anything, I'll gladly post links to my converted modules (the ones I wrote myself only of course).

Thanks in advance for the replies!
