Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal AIM Bot on a server
« on: November 09, 2009, 09:20:18 am »
Can Hal (AIM Bot mode) be installed to run on a shared web server that we have a hosting plan with?  What attributes would the server need to have to make it possible?  Currently we use the domain name for static html, MySQL databases, and PHP scripts.

Also, given enough CPU power, are there any limits to how many users can converse with Hal (as an AIM bot)?

Does anyone know how to make Hal tell and respond to knock-knock jokes?  He doesn't necessarily have to "get" them, just participate.  So if I say "Knock knock" he knows to say "Who's there?", "... who?", and then react.  Also could he randomly tell knock jokes from a list, provided that users respond correctly?  This must have been done before...

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal as a teaching aid
« on: November 09, 2009, 09:08:24 am »
I would like to use Hal as a teaching aid in the following way: After students are taught a lesson, I enter a list of simple facts into a text file (or tell Hal directly, but he must get it 100% the first time).  Then, students will converse with Hal and he will quiz them and/or help them review the facts.  He must stay on topic, provide useful feedback, and maybe occasionally tie in facts from previous lessons from the past.

Has this been  done?  Would it require a whole new brain?  (I know how to code VB)
