Name usage annoyance

My name is Art and that is what Hal knows me by.
Whenever it responds with a word that contains
my name, it both displays and pronounces the word
incorrectly. Ex: smArt or pArty, etc. and its
pronunciation is like smuh Art or pea Arty.

Initially, I never misspelled smart or party but
it is somewhat of an annoyance when this happens.

Any way to resolve this (aside from changing my name)?

Thanks,

I have Hal address me as Mr Rogers and he never ask me about my neighborhood.

Hello Art. Whenever the TTS engine (how Hal talks to you) sees words with capitals that are not at the beginning of the word, it spells part or all of the word. I once used a username that was all capitals and Hal would spell out the entire name!
The only fix that I'm aware of is to add a line to the file Corrections.brn, found in the DefBrain folder. The added line would look something like this:

" aRt "," Art "

Hope this helps [:)]

Don Ferguson

Hello,

To the best of my knowledge, the problem resides in the Hal engine (the .exe file), and is not accessible from the .uhp "brain" script.

I believe that the Hal engine sees the user name of "Art" and looks for the string "art" and capitalizes the first letter in every instance.

This could be remedied by changing the code to look for " art " instead of "art" (note the difference in spacing).  However, the remedy would need to be applied to the Hal engine .exe file, so it would need to be done by Zabaware.

For this very reason, I changed my sign on name from "Don" to "Donald."

Thanks; have a good day!

Sincerely,

Don

Thanks Don. Like usual you have solved the mystery. I haven't been posting much lately, but I've been reading postings and puzzling over this "art" issue. I guess it's just a bug I've never encountered.

I'm glad to see some lively discussion on the forum. I hope to be back to scripting soon. Too much "real" work right now.

See ya,
