Getting Hal to dial out

I just downloaded the trial version of Hal Assistant last night.  So far it seems ok.  It does seem to talk in circles though, maybe that will work itself out as it learns more.  I am having a problem though; I can not get hal to dial a phone number it has learned. It says it is calling but nothing happens.  It's not a hardware problem, I tried my own phone dialer and it works perfectly.  Can anyone help ?
