controls on speech menu not working

I have hal set up to use speech recognition but the only button that actually works, is the one for selecting the sr engine and user. I would like to be able to use the other buttons but nothing happens when i push them.

it figures after posting this I found a similar question and it turns out no one knows why the buttons don't work. It would be nice to get a answer for it though or a update removing them if no one is going to use them.

I did find they work on my tablet
my tablet is running win 8.1

i wonder if your hal file might be corrupted ?
