ask its own questions

If Hal is in the start bar for a while then I open Hal it starts to ask its own questions.  some times just a letter other times one or up to three or four words.  What is going on. I may be new to all this but I would like some help.

If you have your microphone on and are using the voice recognition feature it could be picking up background sound and that is what you see on then scree.
