Trust me, Many menbers...but then again that would be the obvious answer.

It always surprised me how many people never bothered to use F1 or the Help and Support section of Windows. After all, it IS Microsoft's software...who better to know.

Then again it's also apparent that a lot of members, old and new, never bothered to try the SEARCH feature of this forum as well.

You know, I've got to agree with Art. I've been teaching Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and so on, for years. I've looked through countless how-to books on each program, as well as many online tutorials. But the best tutorials out there for these Microsoft programs, the most straightforward and the most concise, are on the Microsoft website. It's the last place people often look--it's the last place, I'm ashamed to say, I look--but it's generally the best place.

Of course, I was talking about the lack of value of the Windows built-in help guide that is part of your OS. The Microsoft website remains a source of help that cannot easily be overestimated. I am also in favor of buying the biggest tome you can find about the OS you work with, but then you must have the patience to do some reading when you are stuck.

The last years I keep wondering if Microsoft didn't make XP more complex then was necessary. So my sympathy goes out to all people whose first computer they ever bought had XP on it. []

source of info regarding Windows OS's. But how many
people do you think even give thought to using Up-date
if the retailer or PC manufacturer doesn't have it set
for automatic. Many people I know of, don't even know
that Windows has an automatic up-date, let alone a help
guide.

People exhibit the same behavior with a PC as they
do after purchasing any other item. []  They get
a vcr, a dvd/r, a microwave oven or a car and they
never read the manual or help & maintenance guides.[V]

I don't know about many other PC operating systems. []
I started out learning the first BASIC coding language
back in 1980 along with the basics of Pascal, COBAL
and Binary Machine Code. I got my Desktop Publishing
cert on Mac4.0, learned CAD/CAM 1,2 & 3 on a TRS 80
and moved on to Win 95 & 98, then a couple yrs ago to
Win XP. Never tried any of the other Windows OS's and
I never had cause or opportunity to try Linux. []
