Hi Group,

I have watched with interest the revival of AnswerPad and have been using it myself since the weekend, and received the 2.01 version from David (Thanks).

My question is, I am running Dragon Speaking software Ver 8.0. Now the problem I am having is when I plug in the Headset its a plantronics headset then I click on speech recognition inside Answerpad. Then what happens (without saying a word) the following is put into Answerpad inside the brackets (F.) (an) (if). When i speak it doesnt recognise anything.

Any advice?

I wish to invite other users of our group to comment on your issue.

I am not familiar with the Dragon Speaking Software.

I have not yet tried UltraHal V6, but I recall V5 interface being more like the ping pong; meaning that you say something then the Bot says something, each one at its turn.

With answerpad the dynamic is diferent, because it has the feature to ramble or give more than one response for your statement.

This makes the speech recognition engine try to interpret its own voice (unless its a headphone) and things get a bit crazy.

Any small noise interferes with the recognition.

you can try typeing:

disable auto return

this might give you a chance to verify the text before it is entered.
Because when you activate SR it also enables auto return.

Well... in other words we have to see if someone who has used the speech engine can give us other options.

The Plantronics headset microphones are quite good, but you have to
make sure that the microphone boom is adjusted/positioned correctly
in relation to your mouth/nose or it will pick up the sound made by
your breath moving against the mic pickup. That's why it is hearing
the "f" & "if" sounds. Before you start using Dragon 8 with Answerpad,
you might think about doing a couple of training sessions with just
Dragon 8 using the new microphone to set a user profile for the
speech recognition software. This will increase the accuracy when
you go on to using it with Answerpad or any other chatbot/A.I. program.

Whether you use Hal or AnswerePad you first have to go through hours of trainging the system to understand the way you talk and pronounce words. If you click on Dragon you will find a button to start the training. Only after it has been trained long enough will either program start to understand what you are saying.
You also want to make sure that there are NO background noises of any kind. That would include the hiss of an airconditioner or such similiar items.

I had done the training session in Dragon 8 prior to using Answerpad. And yes I thought the same with the if and an and F. responses, but I silenced the microphone it still continued. And actually placed my hand around the mic also but it still continued...

Tried your suggestion to David and it still continued.

I cant work it out. I am getting a lone of a mates headset this weekend, which is mic in, headset in, NOT usb like the one I currently have... So shall report back with the findings.

Starting to think its because its not using the Microsoft ONE.

I saw Dragon mentioned and wanted to try to add a little advice.  I've just put in Dragon 9, I'm using a Sennheiser headset and after inputting my documents and going through the short training it's unbelievable.  Earlier I'd been using Ver 7.3 and found that adding the documents greatly increased the accuracy much more than the reading training. Also a document that just lists the stores you shop at and relatives names ect is helpful.
  As for noise input try unmuting the mic in the computer volume control and listen for any noises, it's possible to get 60 cycle hum, also using the bost mic increases the noise more than the input, I use line in and have my own Amp filter.
