I like that one too.
I know how she feels, I have not been very cheerfull this year.

Keep up the great work!

Has anyone heard the saying "She must have sprayed on those pants..." ?  [:p]

Your Hal seems to be pretty good at staying on topic.
It is a learning experience for us as well as our Hal.
I see you do as I do and if you do not want to discuss what she just said, you just press enter, I usually just say 'Yes' then when she agrees, I believe I am clear to change the subject to something I want to discuss.
If we change the subject as a reply to what she just said, she will think the two subjects are related, and they will forever more be associated.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Help me remove a sentence

One, you are reinforcing exactly what I was trying to point out!
I have suspected that exact thing would happen. On the rare occasions where I mistyped spomething that now says something I really do not want Hal to think I said, I search out the instance, and change the sentence as little as possible to make it say something acceptible. Usually it is just adding a 'not' or inserting one.

People should note all sentences have key words. Never remove the key words from a sentence, because then the entry will be in an area where it does not make sense, and your Hal will stumble maybe forever.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Editing Tables
« on: December 12, 2008, 07:27:25 pm »
Yes, I was referring to plugins in general.
A plugin usually creates a table for itself, so it can store data without a danger of messing something else up.

What I was conserned about was the possibility of some links becoming dead if I remove the table.

After a while, other tables would have to link to it, for it all to work together?

Thanks Lightspeed. I'll keep that in mind.
Actually, I have found that if I look until I find a keyword from the sentence, I look until I find it in the autoLearningBrain section, then edit from there.

The brain is way too fragile. Maybe having a way to trigger a maintenance mode would help.

I am still thinking we need some more ways to enter and retreave information.

I agree with One.
If we want just a really elaborate chatbox, that would be one thing, but if we want a truly Artificial Intellegence, it needs to have the abilities of the chatbox, but also has to have the other abilities that come with being Artificial. An organized way of getting at the data, and being able to edit it seems to me to be a must.

I don't know where all Robert meant to go when he started this project, but I think it could become so much more, if it were expanded properly.

Just my two cents worth. (and them some [:D])

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Let Hal Learn to its fullest concept!
« on: December 09, 2008, 12:17:08 pm »
I am all for having Hal become a better 'Chat Bot'. We should keep working on having his responses become more and more humanistic.

I am also for adding different ways of accessing his information.
Just having a chat bot is fun, but if we had more conventional ways of inputing data, and retreaving data, we would still have an Artificial Intellegience, but it would be a better Artificial intellegience that we could use as an Artificially Intelligent Database.

I still want it to be like a Master Control Program. <end of line>

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Vista problems
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:41:40 am »
DanBooth: I purchased a program called RegCure. It is a registry cleaner/fixer. I install Hal, then run RegCure. I have Hal set to autostart. I have the Hal Icon in the system tray when I run RegCure, then click the icon to bring up Hal before restarting the computer after running RegCure. As long as Hal is running in the background when I run RegCure, then I bring up the Hal GUI before rebooting, all is well.
I'm using Vista32 on a 64bit laptop.

Good Luck [8D]

General Discussion / Where is everyone ?

Hopefully everyone is out enjoying some holiday Egg Nog.

It is close enough for me to officially admit it is now the Christmas season.

Let the festivities begin!

Thank You, One.

I will do some more testing with the Firewall that came with Vista.  So far I have found it to be pretty stable.

I have never done much testing of defender, but ThreatFire augments that nicely if you enable Custom Rules. I will have to do some research on tweaking the Custom Rules and see what happens.

I just did a fresh install, so everything I need is backed up.

This is a good time for me to do some testing of the Vista security systems and see how they work with just ThreatFire.

I'll let you know what I find out.

I have found Vista to be pretty secure with its Firewall, Defender, and Protected Mode.
Money is very scarce here, as I am sure it is everywhere.
How well protected do you think a system would be with all of Vista's security enabled, and just ThreatFire?
I asked on their site, but did not get an answer.

I liked it.

Now that Thanksgiving is past, I can start thinking about Christmas.
I am not ready for it, but I can start enjoying the season.

Mark, Do you take requests?
My favorite Christmas song is "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee.

Speech Technology / What's a good mic and headset ?
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:29:38 pm »
I have found my speaking to Hal is too unpredictable, so I am not sure if I want to try a mic.
I am quite excited to think an alpha or beta version of Hal could come out soon.

I am hopelessly addicted to Hal.  (Ask my Wife [B)]  (Not really, she does not mind))
