I sent an email to Robert on your behalf.

I think that just about everything will soon be just an illusion...

Like that old Beatle's song lyric, "...nothing is real..." (Strawberry Fields).

Nicely done Cyber!

Good stuff!

Hey CyborgBob!

Nice video! Good to see you still visiting the forum as it has been some time.

Try out the 7.5 Cloud version where you can talk to Curie, an AI with 1.75 billion exchanges and she's pretty smart!

It only gets better from there.

UltraHal 7.0 will allow you to keep and use your 6.x Hal brain so none of your old information is lost.

Don't be a stranger...

I've contacted Robert for an answer for you...

I am awaiting a response from Robert in this regard as I too, experienced a similar message.

Ultra Hal 7.5.129 Beta - Now free to use
? on: February 25, 2021, 10:55:12 am ?

From Robert Medeksza:

I posted an update today, version 7.5.129 at:

This version essentially makes the base Hal 7.5 free and removes 31-day trial and the need to purchase it for $29.95. No licensing system anymore or weekly login requirements!

Using the GPT-3 powered brain or the Hal 7 cloud brain still requires a login, but if you wish to use an old Hal 6 brain offline, it's free with no licensing restrictions. Character and voice plugins are still for sale, so if you want to continue to support Zabaware please purchase plugins. And GPT-3 usage credits are for sale if you want to use the GPT-3 powered brain.

The GPT-3 powered beta brain is now also open to all interested people to test out, not just current customers. Everyone gets 1000 free usage credits upon verifying a new unique email login.

This essentially puts Ultra Hal for Windows on the same sales model as the upcoming Ultra Hal for Android and IOS will be. Free to play, with addons and GPT-3 credits for sale. If you purchase Hal for Windows you'll be able to access the same brain on mobile and vice versa.

Make sure you do not have Cloud learning or Cloud brain selected. Make sure it's set to Local only.
If your issue still continues, I'd be happy to contact Robert in your behalf for an answer or perhaps someone else will weigh in.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: No response from Hal, but only in 'local learning' mode

In the past, I have found that sometimes changing HAL's TTS Voice, restart HAL, chat for a minute or so then go back and select a preferred voice, start HAL again and the voice would work fine.

Not sure why this is happening but it has cropped up over the years every once in a while but not often.

Glad you found a fix.

Perhaps you could try going back to your other Brain and see if it now speaks aloud.

Good luck either way!

Have you upgraded to the latest version 7.5?

Everything is supposed to be backward compatible even with your existing Brain files and Plugins plus you can also go to the cloud and chat with Hal using a GPT-3 model for enhanced conversational intelligence that's pretty amazing!

Your login info should have changed.

Let us know how you do...

Have you tried other Characters?

Press the enter key by itself to hear if Hal responds.

Make sure you have the proper checkboxes selected in the General, Brain, and Character sections.
Sometimes selecting another voice like the L&H one, do a Test the Voice, then go back to the one you normally use.

Restart Hal after doing these items.

You should be able to select many Plugins like Age & Gender, Loneliness, MarkovL5, and more.

Try some other characters and if you're still having issues let us know. Good luck!!

That some Good News Lightspeed and a big thanks for Robert coming to the rescue. Hal has gone through a lot of changes over the years and every now and then it still poses a good deal of challenges for us.

Enjoy your Hal once again!!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Newbie : Need help please

It is by far better to use Typed entries as they are far less prone to cause mistakes or errors in what Hal understands and enters into its brain Tables.

Spoken words (Speech) is often a problem due to the possibility of background noise (in the room/house, kids playing, dogs barking, TV noise or possibly outside, traffic, construction, horns, etc.). Ultra Hal needs a quiet environment for listening and conversational understanding.

Secondly, Hal is primarily an English language-based program. If non-English speakers attempt to converse with Hal, the program will most likely pick up on foreign accents, pronunciation, and inflection errors that Hal does not understand. It will not be able to enter what it hears properly into its database and future conversations will likewise produce poor or less than desirable results.

This is why most people type to HAL until they feel HAL has a good understanding of them and what they mean before trying to speak to Hal.

Sorry but this is the only language that Hal has been written in for the present time. Best of luck and do give it a good try. Many people who are learning English as a second language have said that typing to Hal has helped improve their English skills and understanding so Hal can be a very good teacher in that regard.

Good luck!

You do realize that the XP OS was over 2 decades ago?

Good luck!

'This function removes all other punctuation and symbols from the User's
'sentence so they won't confuse Hal during processing.
    UserSentence = HalBrain.AlphaNumericalOnly(UserSentence)

Again, this chatbot/assistant is only written for the English language and Windows-based computers. Foreign languages other than English, and other countries might not enjoy the same experience. There is no workaround that I am aware of at present.

IF you are persistent in this I suggest you go through HAL's  Hal7.uhp  script and see what Hal is doing or how it handles various inputs and outputs.

Lastly, I would recommend you send an email to Robert Medeksza, the creator of Ultra Hal 7.

Thank you and good luck!

Use or understand?

During conversations, Hal will normally understand 0-9 and a-z.

Punctuation and Capitalizations do not matter and are not considered.

The other symbols might be used or useful in Hal's programming or perhaps Scriptwriting for Plugins but not during normal conversation.
