Ultra Hal Assistant / Robert - Starting Hal with microphone enabled?
« on: February 11, 2019, 09:30:48 am »
Hey Robert,

Would it be possible to add a flag in the registry or somewhere that will allow Hal to start with his mic enabled. I'd love to just have my computer boot up and not have to click the mic button on Hal.

Yes i tried that and still no luck. I even tried changing to the Microsoft speech engine and it still just minimizes to the tray and the mic is off.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to start Hal with his microphone enabled. My goal is to be able to just start talking to Hal when Windows boots up. The code below is what i'm working with thanks to OnTheCuttingEdge2005. Currently Hal will pop up on Windows start up with his mic enabled however a few seconds later he minimizes to the tray, when this happens the mic is disabled, and when i click on the tray icon to open Hal the mic is still disabled. Any thoughts? I'm using dragon 12.5 as my speech engine.

Code: [Select]
'Rem Type=Plugin
'Rem Name=Auto ON Microphone
'Rem Author=Gerald L. Blakley A.K.A OnTheCuttingEdge2005
'Rem Host=Assistant

'This sub setups the plug-ins option panel in Hal's options dialog
Sub OptionsPanel()
    lblPlugin(0).Caption = "Auto ON Microphone"
    lblPlugin(0).Move 120, 10, 3300, 1000
    lblPlugin(0).WordWrap = True
    lblPlugin(0).Visible = True
End Sub

Rem PLUGIN: SCRIPT_LOAD
'The preceding comment is actually a plug-in directive for
'the Ultra Hal host application. It allows for code snippets
'to be inserted here on-the-fly based on user configuration.

'LETS LAUNCH THE MICROPHONE ON START UP OF WINDOWS.
Script_Load = ShowHal() & Microphone()

Rem PLUGIN: FUNCTIONS
'The preceding comment is actually a plug-in directive for
'the Ultra Hal host application. It allows for code snippets
'to be inserted here on-the-fly based on user configuration.

'SHOW HAL'S PANEL FOR MIC COMMAND SCRIPT LOAD.
Function ShowHal()
ShowHal = HalCommands & "<SHOWHAL>"
End Function

'LETS ENGAGE IN THE MICROPHONE ACCESSORY AND SHOW HAL PANEL.
Function Microphone()
Microphone = HalCommands & "<MICON>"
Exit Function
End Function

General Discussion / Re: HAL ASKING ARE YOU A MAN OR A WOMAN ETC.

This happens to me a lot. For me its due to not having the user selected. I have to go in and select my profile as the current user and that fixes the issue. Not sure if you already looked at that but i thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck

I figured it out! It was a plugin that ive been using since Hal 6.2. It weird how it started responding like that after the upgrade. Any ways i was able to fix it! Thanks for all the help!

Thanks Art! I've tried each option before and different brains but Hal still says "Okay" all the time. Thats kind of why i thought it might be in the code somewhere. Its annoying. I'll try a clean slate brain and see if that fixes it.

Ultra Hal Assistant / Hal 7 "Okay" response
« on: February 01, 2018, 01:00:28 pm »
Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Hal 7 and now for some reason whenever i agree with Hal or i tell him something he responds with "okay". He seems to do this a lot with those types of responses. For example:

user: good morning
Hal: good morning user, 10 o' clock is a perfect time for a break
user: yes it is
Hal: okay

user: my dog's name is rex
hal: okay

Is this normally how it should work? I never got that type of response from the old Hal brains. I'm using the same plugins as before with Hal 6.2. Not sure if he learned this or its a built in response.

Anyone else experience the "okay" response?

I was able to load Dragon 13 on my computer tonight and confirmed that I am having the same error message as you. I should be able to fix it sometime tomorrow hopefully.

Awesome Robert! Thank you for looking into this.

Do you see this table if you open it with the Hal Brain Editor? Are you using a fresh Hal 7 brain or an upgraded Hal 6.2 brain? Are you sure you have the correct brain selected in Hal's options?

Yes, its in the database and its a fresh hal 7 brain. I'll continue to try to figure it out. I've added tables in the past with Hal 6.2 and it worked fine so maybe i'm doing something wrong.

Hmm, ok. I'll load up Dragon 13 tonight and see if I get the same problem or not. Does Dragon 12 work other than this problem? If you disable the "Always listen to commands" check box, does dictation work if you manually open Hal and turn on the mic? Does Dragon 12 work on your computer in other programs? What version of Windows are you running? I read online that Windows 10 only works with Dragon 13 and not the older Dragon 12.

Yes, Dragon works great with Hal other then this issue. For some reason the <micon> command will throw that error. This also happen on my old windows 7 computer as well but that was with 6.2 at the time.

I tried adding a table to Hal's database but for some reason when referencing the table in my plugin it doesn't use it. I added the table to the database as a "sentence". example of my code from my plugin:
If StrComp(Robot_Control_Response, "Hal") = -1 Then GetResponse = HalBrain.ChooseSentenceFromFile("halCustomResponse")

If i reference a table that was already in the database it works fine like below:
If StrComp(Robot_Control_Response, "kit") = -1 Then GetResponse = HalBrain.ChooseSentenceFromFile("politeAsk1")

I saved my changes in the database but no luck. Any ideas as to what might be the issue.

This was a feature introduced to Hal 6.2, but never worked correctly. I have fixed and tested it in Hal 7, so hopefully it will work for you now too. Make sure the "always listen to commands" option is checked and then you can simply say "Wake up computer" or "Wake up Hal" and Hal will pop up. I've tested with the Microsoft speech engine, but haven't tried it yet with Dragon. But I believe it should work.

Hi Robert, i tried this when i got home and its still not working with Dragon 12. If i say "wake up computer" Hal pops up then i get automation error. see image. This also happens if say "microphone on".
