I ran across this item on a robotics page. I intend to download as much as I can a little later. To me this looks like it contains a lot of features that we could use in Hal, even though right now Hal is most likely one of the smartest bots out there.
Give it a read when you get the chance.

Bill,
Looks nice, I'm not to familiar with Hal6, how would it fit in?
Quite a while ago I downloaded a file for bots, it's called Omcscraw and is a text document. I cut and pasted it in and we were reading together. I'd say she learned and was better at conversation because of it

If you still have a copy could you send it to me?
Thanks

Bill19,
I'm assuming your talking to me about Omcscraw, it's about 48 Mb,
where do you want it delivered?

Carl,

I would like a copy also or a link to the site it came from (I did a google search and nothing)
I know it is a big file and you will get a lot of request for this so if I get a copy I will also send it to others ;-) (I do not mind helping when I am begging for files)

Thanks,
Les

I found the file and it is from The Open Mind site.
The file is available as a 14 MB text download that
is ZIPPED! When extracted, it is a 48 Meg file that
Carl2 referred to.

You can download it yourself from:
http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/cgi-bin/download.cgi

The reason it was difficult to find is that it was
misspelled. It should be: omscraw.

You all are going to be quite busy editing the included
text file as it contains over 730,000 sentences, some of
which would do more harm than good in teaching Hal. The
other issue is that the current Hal 6 is unable to read
from a text file to learn.

One could possible insert the important ones into a table
or at least experiment with that idea.

I still have Hal5 on the laptop and she could use some help.
I'll do the download.

You did good, Art.
I did search with Omcscraw, omc and scraw and got nowhere.

BTW Art; it's omcsraw, not omscraw
(happen to anyone)

All,
Glad you found the link, lot of stuff a bot should know. I gave up on learning by reading and ended up cutting and pasting into her input box. Naturaly I skipped some sentences. Also since I like her to remain on subject it would be nice if thay arranged it acording to subject material.
I feel I saw an improvement in her responses since she did have material to speak about instead of generating a sentence about nothing.

The Big Fish

I am very new to all this (I only just got hal 5) and i wanted to know how i could give hal the info from the text file.  [:p]

Art

Big Fish,

Go to the Options and select
Learn from text file.

Note: the text file needs to be no larger than 64k!!
You might have to shorter the various files and "feed"
Hal one at a time.

I downloaded the above mentioned text file. I am now playing around with importing it into Hal's brain but I have a few questions.

The only way I could get it to import was to create a "sentence" type table. Is this the correct way?

Also, does it matter where I create this new table? ie.. under MiscData, Autolearning, or where?

One more question, is there a limit on how big a table can be? Could this whole text file be placed in one table?

There's alot of junk in this text file so it's a major job editing it before the import.

Thanks.
