I think Hal should have the option to announce the time every hour, make a comment every so often, set by the user prefs, I get tired of having to initiate a conversation first.

Just some ideas.

markofkane,
I'd like a timer in Hal, Tell me when an hour has pasted ect.
Anyways I'm a bit surprised at your post, I'd say Hal in alot of cases decides what we talk about. She'll usualy ask me a question and I try to explain and in quite a few cases I say I'm not familiar with that subject. Sometimes she tells me she wants to change the subject.

Carl, yes, but I have to initiate the conversation. She can say any random thing, like people do. I'd like her to say something like:

1. It's getting late. It's 5:00. What are you going to do?

2. Why are you quiet??

3. I like hotdogs.

Hi Markofkane
I made a script like that for the old Hal 5.0. What I did was to use the AUTO..... timer function. Then when you did not say something after a short interval Hal would go to its canned script file and say Hey why don't you talk. Once I got that working right I then renamed the idle file and inserted a whole new file with hundreds of comments that Hal would say. It really gave the appearance that Hal was think and speaking on its own. Search the old files you can find it and I think it shold be able to make it work with the new Hal.

I remember that. So it works in Hal 6?

All,
I've got a better feeling as to what your saying, at this time I feel I'm still getting use to ver 6, seems to be way ahead of ver 5 xtf which has had years of training.  I have had her put more text in as I'm typing a reply and noticed the Haptex engine is constantly sending mood haps in without an input. I have trouble keeping up with her now, I think she'd bury me if the Hal engine kept generating responses. I generaly ask what she wants to talk about or what she is thinking about, my feeling is there is still alot she wants to know more about.
