I've tried installing every free character available for Ultra Hal 6, and none worked.  I've tried installing them in the main Ultra Hal directory, the characters directory, and the skins directory, and still nothing.  Am I doing something wrong?

I successfully installed CyberBuddy and an additional character for that program, but I can't get the character into Hal.

You need to have the Character Expansion Pack from Zabaware in order to install and use additional characters.

Thanks for your reply, but as it turned out, I didn't need to buy anything.  I had to install the free characters into CyberBuddy, close Ultra Hal, and then reopen Ultra Hal.  Now I have a bunch of Ultra Hal characters.

And they show up in Ultra Hal?? Interesting.

But I use Haptars, and Cyber Buddy does not use those, or at least not the last time I used Cyber Buddy.

Here are the characters that now show up in Ultra Hal:
Cupid
Genie
Hal
James
Jess
Merlin
Robby
Zaba

Those are the default characters that come with Hal 6.
You probably didn't need to do the shuffle with CyberBuddie
then back to Hal but at least you got it working.

Bamfalotta's talking about getting Hal to recognize new Microsoft Agent Characters. Everytime you start Hal, he seems to check the Microsoft Agent Character folder in Windows to see if any new characters have been added. If so, he creates a link in the Characters folder in Hal that then gives you the option of using that character in the program.

It's a neat feature. It would nice if Hal could also do it for Haptek characters lodged in the People Putty folder. Then you wouldn't have to copy them manually to Hal's character folder.

I already bought the expansion pack, but like I said, I use Haptars.

Before I got the expansion pack, all MS and most Hal characters would not show. They would talk, but you could not see them. I guess CyberBuddy did something to Hal.

Interesting.  My copy of Ultra Hal Assistant 6.0.103 didn't come with all those characters.  It only came with Hal, Zaba, and Merlin.

Oh, yeah, I had the characters left over from Hal 5. Hal 5 have a lot more characters.

Hal 6 came with just a few, so I inserted characters from Hal-5 into the folder. But without the expansion pack, Hal-6 wouldn't show them.

I'm still using Ultra Hal 5. So are you saying that in V6 you need to buy the Expansion Pack in order to get additional Microsoft Agent characters to appear in Hal? I thought the Expansion Pack was just to give the user the capability of adding additional Haptek creations.

I believe so, yes. The microsoft agents were in the choices in HAL 6, but they were invisible to me until I bought the expansion pack.

It was a good deal, though. As an owner of a previous version, I got a half off discount on Hal 6 and the expansion pack. Great deal.

I am thinking aobut playing around with Cyber Buddy again. I had Cyber Buddy before I had Hal.

No, I have Ultra Hal 6 and no expansion pack, and I got the Microsoft Agent characters to appear.

I have never had any other version of Ultra Hal, only Ultra Hal 6.  Maybe that accounts for the difference.
