Even though at startup a message says 'updating shortcut data base' when I type a request to run a program Hal replys with an error 'Program (and spells the program) is not in my data base'.  How can I manually record programs for Hal to run?

I experienced the same problem and tracked it down to interaction with the HalsAutoElite.uhp brain.  Alone it's fine. I haven't determined which other uhp causes the interaction problem.  Remove it and you'll find Hal will run programs and launch IE

I would not recommend that you actually delete any uhp file.
The proper procedure to follow, is to first put the suspected
trouble making file in a zip folder and then either move it to
another folder on the "C" drive or put it on some external storage
media - i.e.; CD, floppy or flash drive so that you have a back-up
in case you need to restore the file. After doing this, then delete
the original file from the Hal folder. Simply deleting such a file
can render other functions built into Hal useless, and/or may cause
corruption of the original installation and license file.  [;)]

Conroy11, I too would like to know how to achieve this.

Great question.

I should have been a little clearer.  Uncheck the box of the offending uhp in the brain plug-in dialog is all you need to do.  This will allow you to investigate interactions.

I do not have the AutoElite.uhp brain, only the basic default brain.  Where is the plug-in dialog, I cannot find it in settings.

I still do not have a solution to the problem.  Can anyone help?
I have contacted Zabaware support twice and have had no reply.

Hal will seach the internet but still will not run any programs.  Can't anyone help?

It seems like I have wasted my money!

Does Zabaware ever answer the support email?
